Too bad this doesn't show the check that started it. I heard about it this morning on XM but SOPA seems to be hindering my search abilities. Good scrap though.

soopey - thanks for the link. Definitely low and maybe a bit late. Didn't see the taunting I heard about on the radio this morning.

I agree. There's been a lot of "low-bridging" in the past few years. Maybe Shanny is trying to get rid of it. I can't complain, it is dangerous. I'd still prefer they call diving/embellishment more. Seguin got an obvious one last night and I'm glad. It needs to be enforced a hell of a lot more.

It wouldn't have been anything worse than interference if Phaneuf hadn't jumped.

The most shocking part of that video is that Phaneuf actually dropped the gloves. His last year in Calgary he began to develop a major reputation for running away from a fight.

Lifeless: It wouldn't have been anything worse than interference if Phaneuf hadn't jumped.

That's kinda what I feel - the hit itself suffers from a bit of what happened to Simmonds (?) where he tried to get out of the way and ended up flipping awkwardly. Here, Phaneuf is coming in for a hit, and Foligno decides to take it on the hip instead of the shoulder, but then Dion adjusts to that, and Nick adjusts to that and it all goes to hell.

It probably would've made more sense to call it "interference", or "unsportsmanlike - low bridging" instead of "clipping", since they're really getting away from its true definition now...

I thought for sure that Rosehill was gonna white knight him. Good on Dion for doing it himself.

/a bit late was the worst offense, but Phaneuf tried to go over the top and it looked kinda ugly as a result

Maybe I just don't see it enough, but what's the difference between that clip and a hip check? He seems to use only his lower body.

As a Sabres fan, I like to see Phaneuf finally get what's coming to him (of course, the Sabres don't have the balls to do it). He's an asshole on the ice - picking on skilled players while cowering when confronted by bruisers.

That being said, if Foligno wants true respect, he has to remove that helmet. I can't stand players that instigate fights (not that Foligno did in this case), then keep their helmets on.

Clipping is supposed to target the knees.

This hit didn't, IMO, and wouldn't have been anywhere the knees if Phaneuf hadn't tried to go up & over.

Fixed it for you, considering who got the instigator and all. Neither guy took off the helmet and both wear visors.

/thinks removing the helmet should be a game misconduct and a one game suspension like the OHL

Yep, I remember. Thing is that Dion (he'll always be "the Creep" to me) is tough, but wasn't really ever a fighter.

I'm also not a Dion fan anymore, but I wouldnt say he lost that fight at all. I'd call it a draw, really. Not the best tussle ever. Enjoy your fine for not having your tie-downs on, though, Mr. P.

soopey: Seguin got an obvious one last night and I'm glad.

Yep... and if he would have stayed on his feet, the Bruins would have gotten a power play since the ref was already calling the trip when Seguin "embellished" it.

Another sloppy night for the Bruins, but it was good to see Horton get two goals on the night after getting called out by Julien.

Frustrating game to watch, though.

Marchand and (hopefully) Peverley should be back in the line up for Thursday's game with the Devils, so hopefully that'll give the Bruins a little kick in the pants.

I just like how the Senators were outplayed, outshot and still won in regulation. That Turris trade is looking better and better.

There's always just something about Foligno that rubs me the wrong way. Dion's ok but.... I dunno... Wade Redden here we come. Let's meet up and discuss it in 5 years.
Basically troll trolling troll in this video.

Foligno is a career third line forward and occasional second line plug. I would not be surprised to see him traded before the year is out.

I'd suggest that a 24 year old, 50 point third liner might be worth hanging on to a bit longer.

/not untouchable, just sayin'.
