This is good news for Obama.

Hoooboy.

It's a shame he didn't vet Palin as well.

Standard Oppo Research. Nothing big. This is what every candidate has. It does mean that people are scared about Romney getting the nomination.

Well, that's some reading for later...

How is it that Buzzfeed has done better research than anyone else this time around?

Here someone found Ron Paul taking credit for those newsletters that he says he never wrote, never saw, and completely discredits.

Interesting, but don't really need to read it since I already hate the guy.

I don't think that anyone outside of the GOP is all that scared of Romney getting the nomination. He's digging such a wonderful hole for himself on a daily basis, it's almost comical. And, once he no longer has folks like RON PAUL, Santorum and Newt around to make him look good, I expect he'll seriously start shooting himself in the foot. Many times.

That, "I didn't make much last year, only $375k" made some very messy pants at the DNC last night.

I read through the summary at the top, and some of the quotes, citations and links at the bottom.

I really don't think much of it will matter much to voters. What I think will resonate will be Romney's unfathomable wealth, and his douchetastic off-hand remarks ($10K bet, $375K "didn't make that much")

Many Americans already blame the uber-wealthy for our problems. Most of us can't do a thing to affect the average 1%-er, but we can sure as hell send a big fark you to a 1%-er who wants our vote.

Too bad there isn't anyone running who didn't have everything handed to him, who was ever just a regular guy, someone of good moral character who came from relatively little yet pulled himself up by his own bootstraps....

I doubt it would be that long. If he was paying me to do it this is what it would take;

I'm just skimming through this, and... oh wow. Just, so many attack angles in there. '200 pages' really underestimates the volume of attack options in there. Most pages have 6, 8, 10 different distinct attacks jsut on those single pages. There's 11 pages devoted just to flip-flops. That is literally an entire campaign's worth of work, complete with sourcing, that now doesn't have to be done by Obama's team because McCain's team has done it for them. All they have to do is follow the sources, pull the videos, cut the ads and go to town.

If I'm on Romney's campaign, there are warning sirens the volume of a hair-band concert going off in my head right now.

2012-01-18 01:36:54 AM
There's some fun video clips on the last five pages. Someone should dig up the one with him betting Connecticut with George Pataki. Or the one with the joke about how, like hell, Arizona would be like paradise if it had some water and some decent people. Or the one where he says how amazing it is to be rich and famous.

/Or the one....

His money went, via Bain Capital, to a government that was actively building IEDs to kill our troops... he made money off the deal. Defend that free-market capitalism in a debate and tell me how it goes.

I mean, regardless of how vehemently some of the right hates Obama, when that gets out, Romney's frickin toast.

I think what might end up being the most damaging out of all of this is that it reveals that he is lying about his "epiphany" that led to his changing views on abortion. He's been going around saying over and over that it happened when a certain piece of legislation came to his desk, and he realized "oh, I just couldn't sign this...I've been wrong all this time" but this document shows that he used to say that the epiphany occurred when he talked to a stem cell researcher about his work. One of those two stories is a lie. Oh, who am I kidding. Both of them are a lie. His "epiphany" occurred when he woke up one morning and said "Holy shiat, I'm going to run for president in about 2 years, and I'll never make it past Iowa and South Carolina unless I change myself to pro-life".

2012-01-18 01:43:59 AM

Just as the Mittster is synching up the nom this leaks. McMain looks even more like a dottering fool, not able to control any aspect of his campaign, during or after. It almost like someone wants a brokered convention.

2012-01-18 01:48:53 AM
I'm shocked that his support of the AWB alone hasn't sunk him in the primaries yet. I mean, there are legions of single-issue voters who panic-bought and panic-voted against Obama because of his record against guns, but Romney's is at least as bad if not worse. He has even lied about hunting, owning guns, and being in the NRA.

bootman: Just as the Mittster is synching up the nom this leaks. McMain looks even more like a dottering fool, not able to control any aspect of his campaign, during or after. It almost like someone wants a brokered convention.

Even after McCain got behind Romney as the nominee, several of his staffers have continued to leak stories about how they think that McCain's support may actually be hurting their guy. Between that and the public slamming of McCain-Feingold, I'd say it's more likely that the Romney campaign didn't realize exactly where they were throwing all these sticks and stones.

Given the choice of those two, my money would be on Paultards. Publishing something like this online isn't something you do if you want to sink somebody and have a more private option, because doing it this way means the Romney campaign knows Obama's got it. Somebody on the McCain team's got to know somebody at the DNC or Obama campaign--went to school with them, or goes to the same gym, or something. Paul's people, not as likely.

I dunno, the democrat smear machine, though occasionally nasty, doesn't seem to be nearly as ruthlessly efficient and organized as republican operations. Though they understand negative ads work, they just don't seem to have the same level of pure vitriolic hate, or the level of lockstep organization that the right enjoys.

The DNC has no shortage of liberals. Liberals have no shortage of academics. Academics have no shortage of researchers. They have most likely compiled ever thing Mittens has ever said, everything he has ever done and everything Bain has ever done. If the DNC can draw lines between profits from the Iran deal and any later profit sharing, dividends or resituals pay to Romney I think we can call the 2012 Whitehouse race done.

With some enterprising help from the 'net too, no doubt. When Huntsman quit, he deleted all his anti-Mitt videos and endorsed Romney. Unfortunately the internet never forgets... and in a few hours the videos were back up. It's possible the Obama team keeps a copy of every 'oppo' video, but if they don't they've instantly switched to keeping a copy of everything Newt, Paul, Frothy, Crazy Eyes and Yosemite Sam have said.

It's not a question of who wins this fight but in which round, now.

/Confused and more a little hurt by that racist remark.

Unless you are talking about the proposed Attention Whore Ban. Quite frankly a ban that limits known attention whores like Paris Hilton, Perez Hilton, anyone related to a Kardashian or a clown car vagina to 15 minutes of media attention seems like a winner in terms of the primaries, Not sure where you're getting your poll numbers from...

Scanning through the document, what depressed me most is remembering how much I didn't hate the guy when he was Governor. Fiscal conservative, basically socially moderate, he could have passed for Democrat back in the day. Now, he's just this entitled, pandering, Republibot.

yes. He said he estimates its around 15% ie. capital gains rate. Thats significantly less than what I pay, and I make a good bit less than six figures, have two kids 3 and under, and the wife stays at home currently.

We should just have these on every candidate instead of watching them fluster themselves through interviews and debates. Might even cut down on the whole "voting for the winning team" effect.

It's weird innit?

That which makes him palatable to the center/left is what makes him unpalatable to the right. Including the pandering (the right is eating it up, the rest of us are like "SRSLY?! THAT guy?").

And that he's so severely running away from his moderate past is enlightening, much like a helicopter spotlight revealing the blood-soaked killing floor you're standing on, and the wild-eyed maniac with the knife in the shadows.

Um, reading through this, I find the lack of analysis disturbing. Especially in the business section, there are a lot of "gotcha" articles citing the lack of business growth and population flight during his tenure as governor.

But why? The document doesn't go into any details on how these things show weaknesses in Mitt's inability to lead.

In short: the document is built for attack ads but not for policy debate.

The Celebrity Apprentice -- Republican Primaries! reality show has been extremely lucrative. All they have to do is setup the cameras and those clowns fall all over themselves to do something that will get their face in front of people who will donate money.

There's absolutely no reason for the "librul media" to spend any type of money or resources to investigate any of the candidates. There's no money to be made by doing an investigation, and they've discovered there are a lot more viewers to sell to advertisers when they stick to the reality show format.

Keep in mind that you're also paying payroll taxes on your earnings, and he's not. So, while you're paying 6.2% + 4.2% + 1.45% + 1.45% = 13.3% in payroll taxes on every single dollar you earn, in addition to the federal income taxes, Romney is not. When you total it all up, your total tax rate is much, much higher than Romney's.
