He sounds like a real straight shooter. Must have been a tough decision, but I'm glad he bit the bullet and decided to give it a shot. I hope he doesn't end up riddled with regret, and when the smoke clears he's the last man standing.

My niece is at Virginia Tech and annually raises cancer research money in my honor, so I'm getting a kick....

Not soon enough since it's the first thing I thought of. If you go to that school you'd better be a good runner, or have no problem using a human shield.
