Well, true. The whole premise of this bullshiat Fox News "journalism" is flawed... they assume children buy comics. Because the comics industry limited itself to the Direct Market ghetto, kids can't just pick up a comic book off of a grocery store newsstand rack anymore. They have to be specifically taken to a comic shop. So, if a parent is taking a kid to a comic shop and doesn't know what the kid is reading, the parent is a moron who should STFU and quit biatching, because their own shiatty parenting is to blame.

There's a revolving rack at my local Super Stop and Shop. Of course, I'd imagine that kids get their comics more from, say, Barnes and Noble than from the grocery store.

There is DC kids line, Archie Comics are still around. There's a marvel kids line. Dark Horse has a kids line too. Actually the Comic Code Authority officially ended a year back or so and everything is rated via the video game rating system. The really crazy stuff like from Avatar Press is wrapped. Plus kids haven't read comics since the 1980s when the shift to grittier comics happened. Kids get worse stuff watching CSI at prime time than anything in the funny pages these days..

So what's the problem?

To be fair, those have been all about T&A and not for kids since the late-90s. But, they're all clearly rated for teens and older.

Yay! Something I can offer an "expert" opinion on!

I own two comic book stores. I offer a subscription service that currently has just under 400 subscribers. Of those 400 subscribers 0 are under 18. Most comic book readers are my age, 35, or older. Comics simply don't appeal to kids who would rather be Wolverine in the latest video game that just read about him. The only kids I'm aware of that actually read comics, are the kids of adult readers.

Also, comics are rated, just like movies and TV. The come in All Ages, Teen, Mature. The average comic is roughtly PG 13. Mainstream characters: Superman, Spider-Man, Batman (for the most part), Fantastic Four, etc, rarely chart territory you wouldn't see on network TV at 6pm. That said, there are Adult-only comics, clearly marked, that certainly aren't appropriate for kids (any Marvel Max title, most DC Vertigo, The Boys, etc)

If this guy really wanted to help kids, he would suggest them actually read some comics. I hated reading as a kid until I started picking up comics. That led to novels, which led to literature, which led to philosophy. Had it not been for comics, I might just be another mouth-breather.

Comic books are what? $6-7 now, how much allowance do kids get these days? I used to get $10 a week in the late 80s early 90s, and comics were between 75 cents to 1.25, so it was only a small portion of my pay, kid's today would have to make $60 a week for it to be the same ratio.

/stopped collecting when they went to $1.50

As for allowance rates...depends on your family.
