The Goldman family is still trying to collect, and gets Simpson's residual payments from his movie performances.
That's funny. I hadn't heard about that. A couple of months ago I had to stop and watch a few minutes of Capricorn One in part because it's just so weird to see O.J. on screen.

The jury rendered the correct verdict. Yes, OJ was guilty as hell, but no he should not have been convicted on the basis of the case put forward by the prosecution. The combination of police misconduct, basic incomptence by the crime lab and those charged with securing the evidence, and
the worst
prosecutors I've ever seen in a major murder trial, made the verdict a foregone conclusion.
Like the Casey Anthony trial, everyone hates the defendant and/or her lawyer for "getting away with murder" when the scorn and hatred should really be directed at the incomptent cops and prosecutors who screwed up a slam-dunk case

But weren't those bloody prints matched to his shoes in the
civil
trial? The way I recall it (following it on Time magazine from outside the US) is that it was one of the most horribly botched prosecution cases ever. (plus a jury likely to hand up a "deadlocked" result if the prosecution had had HD video of OJ murdering Brown and Goldman).

Short answer? An idiot racist cop, crappy evidence techs, and incomptent prosecutors.
The idiot racist was Det. Mark Furhman who "found" (planted) the infamous bloody glove. The Guy who denied, under oath, ever once using the N-word, despite the fact that he was planning on moving to a white power enclave in Idaho, and had once given an interview on tape in which he dropped the N-bomb a few hundred times. Thus the prosecution's strongest evidence was suddenly made suspect.
The DNA evidence in the Bronco was rendered useless because the cops admitted after impounding OJ's vehicle, they neither locked it or did anything to restrict access to it. (so much so that a tabloid reporter was able to crawl around inside and get pictures AFTER it was in police custody. Once "Chain of custody" on evidence is broken, it become essentially useless.
Finally Clark and Darden were not only bad at thier jobs but nearly incompetent. The "glove does not fit" moment should never have happened because they should have been on their feet and objecting to high heaven. OF COURSE a Lether glove that has been stored wet will no longer fit its original hand, ESPECIALLY when the person has a latex glove on underneath. The tried to bring in experts after the fact to say this of course, but by then the damage was already done because the demonstration was allowed to happen in front of the jury.

The shoes didn't show up until after the first trial. He claimed to have never owned such ugly-ass shoes. Then some photographer found a shot of him with exactly the U/A shoes.
There was enough doubt cast in the case by OJ's excellent defense and the incompetent prosecution to get a Not Guilty verdict.
Personally, I wondered if his kid did it. The kid had OJ's temper, had step-mommy issues (she was supposed to eat at the restaurant OJ's kid worked at but went to the other place instead. The kid had access to OJ's cars, shoes, etc.

That depends on your point of view. Do you believe the system should work so that 99 guilty people go free so one innocent person is not jailed, or do you consider the one innocent person found guilty to be an accepted margin of error?
The reason why is though I would bet every single dollar I've ever made that he did it I would have found him not guilty if I was on the jury. Due to my job at the time I watched the majority of the trial (I worked in TV news and we did regular cut-ins and updates during the trial) so I saw most of the evidence. There was plenty of stuff that didn't make sense with the prosecution's case, some of it being sloppy work, some of it being jumps in logic, but putting all of that aside there was one singular thing that would have tipped the case for me to voting not guilty. There were photographs shown of the crime scene the day after the murders. There was another set of photos showing the crime scene from a week (? don't remember the exact timeline) later. On the gate in the original photograph there was no blood. In the second picture there was a small amount of blood. The blood turned out to be Simpson's. However the blood on the gate also had traces of a preservative used in blood samples that were taken from Simpson. When you add that to the fact that the police could not account for all of the blood that Simpson had drawn by the police it casts a cloud of doubt.
I have no doubt that he did it, but something wasn't right about it. The police investigation was botched and they planted evidence. Once you accept that evidence was planted it throws doubt over all of the collected evidence.

That's also ben a pet theory of mine for a LONG time. OJ was an ex NFL running back, and all of those I've ever personally ecountered have been nigh-crippled from injuries from thier playing days. I find it a little incredible that OJ managed a double murder and ran from the scene given his known mobility limitations.

OJ was found Not Guilty by a jury of his peers.
But don't let that fact stop you bloodthirsty jackals from forming your lynch mob.
He was found not guilty under the strict definition of the criminal code, namely "reasonable doubt". The jury decided that, despite the fact that he had the means, motive, blood covered gloves, the same size and kind of shoes that left prints at the scene of the crime (despite denials by his lawyers, numerous photographs showed him wearing precisely those shoes), and he took flight, and despite DNA evidence, the total lack of any other suspects, his previous record of domestic violence, the likelihood of an "Othello complex", and so forth, that some of the evidence could possibly have been tainted by a racist cop. This is "reasonable doubt".
Then he was tried by the looser and less demanding standard of a civil court and found guilty of murder because there's no fricking way he didn't do it unless you are going to put the LA police on trial instead of him.
Weird, convoluted and time-consuming, but I think justice was done. The jury in the first trial may well have been right to suppose they had a "reasonable" doubt that he did it, but the jury in the second trial had no reason to doubt the over-whelming evidence that he did it.
Don't forget: there were two trials, one for murder in the first degree, and one for wrongful death. The second jury decided that it was wrongful death for a strong jealous husband to hack the heads nearly off of his soon-to-be ex-blonde Shicksa and her gay friend who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that is that. Especially since he never testified in his defence as most innocent men do, his lawyers denied he was wearing shoes of the exact size and brand that left bloody footy prints all over the scene of the crime, his blood WAS found at the scene of the crime and on gloves in his possession, and he did attempt a flight in which a mysterious bag possibly containing the weapons used in the murder played a significant role. The only witness of any note was a twit who was indebted to the accused for letting him crash on his couch and the only cause for reasonable doubt was the general conviction that the LAPD are a bunch of racist farkers, but during the trial they proved to be a bunch of star-struck farkers as well, so the two tend to cancel out.
