That's the one I want to see. The last Giants-Patriots game was interesting cause of the massive potential upset possibility. Now, meh.

There are people whose job it is to say that any random game is the most exciting game ever, even if the teams aren't evenly matched, and even if the outcome of the game doesn't affect anything.

I also suspect that Super Bowl viewership has been basically increasing over the past forty years...

I bet sports fans would love to watch Tebow abuse himself.
It would be the perfect circle jerk.

Obviously I want Giants-anyone. Plus either one would be a Super Bowl rematch. 11 years removed in the case of the Ravens, but still. The only thing is that my girlfriend's originally the Baltimore area, so Giants-Ravens would be interesting on a personal level.

But there is the not-so-small matter of winning in San Francisco at hand.

Patriots/Niners. That's my prediction.

For now.

This is what I'd go with. Ravens are more likely to upset this prediction than the Giants because they're the Ravens and weird shiat happens when they play.

I want to see a Niners/Ravens Super Bowl.

2012-01-17 12:22:51 PM
Would love to see Niners/Ravens. There's 32 NFL teams, can we maybe see some who weren't playing in the Super Bowl multiple times in the last 5 years? Also, the idea of brothers coaching against one another, especially in the Super Bowl, fascinates me.

2012-01-17 12:23:14 PM
I think all the possible match ups are pretty good.

There are three games left and all have potential to be great.

2012-01-17 12:24:21 PM
Eh. Seen "Brady vs. Manning" before. Did have a nifty ending, though...

2012-01-17 12:25:51 PM
Based on this season, NYFG has a 40 some % chance of losing their running back this week. The niners have knocked 5 RBs out of games and one for the better part of one this season. That and the nasty rushing defense that should prove difficult for Jacobs and crew with the wet turf.

I'd prefer to see that matchup just because of how the Niners did such a good turnaround from the previous season.

And thirded. As a Ravens fan, this is my first choice. However, I do not think it will happen. I think the Giants are the most well-rounded team out there. They can rush a QB up the middle more reliably than any other team out there. This would be effective in beating the 49ers.

Same rule applies for the Ravens. If they can effectively get to Brady up the middle and force him out of the pocket and put a little pressure on him, then they stand a good chance of winning. but how effective will they be at doing this? I think a lot of things have to go right for the Ravens to beat New England, sadly.

As for a Giants / Patriots Superbowl: despite what someone said above, this is a VERY interesting game. Brady wins, he avenges his other loss to the Giants. They lose, he's been beaten twice in the Superbowl by the same QB and head coach tandem, and one of them is a Manning. Eli would then also have more rings than his brother. And the game is played in Indy.

Two of the larger media markets in the US being represented in any sports championship game will get high ratings. Not exactly news.

qorkfiend: Eh. Seen "Brady vs. Manning" before. Did have a nifty ending, though...

It will be a fantastic game. The Giants have beaten "The Brady" twice in a row now, yet for the third straight time, they will more than likely go into the game being substantial underdogs.

Belichick will unleash his the full depths of his "evil genius" to get his team ready given the Saban-esque "No way he loses to the same team twice in a year...does he?" pressure on him, and the Giants will still get to play the respect card to fire themselves up. Sh*t would get real.

Who the fark would want to see a Superbowl with Alex Smith and Joe Flacco? I understand team loyalties and whatnot but to not want to see two of the best quarterbacks facing off for a rematch of one of the best Superbowls in the history of the sport, you are just being an asshole unless you are fan of the Niners or Ravens. It's like saying back in the day....nah, I don't want to see Bird vs. Magic for the Championship. The last time they played, sure it was one of the best finals ever, but meh. Also....having this rematch can establish one hell of a rivalry and cause years of discussion if Eli happens to win his second while Peyton has one. fark the Niners/Ravens matchup. Niners/Pats, Giants/Ravens could also be decent, but Niners/Ravens....get the fark out of here.

I based my pre-season superbowl prediction soley on the market shares of these two teams and came up with the same conclusion. And I am the last one left in the pool.

Happy dance commenced. :)

That's also what I'd like to see as a football fan. I don't need to see Flacco vs Smith again this season. That storyline already played out over Thanksgiving.

Yeah pretty much; does everyone really want two weeks of Harbaugh/Brother Bowl? Hell naw, gimme the rematch everytime. :)

And a Manning will go 3-0 on Brady, count on it!

broktune: Who the fark would want to see a Superbowl with Alex Smith and Joe Flacco?

No one does. The matchup between two ferocious defenses is what would "sell" that game to the casual fan. Not as sexy as Brady vs Manning redux, but still.

Besides, the Harbaugh brothers would get more camera time than Alex Smith and Joe Flacco to begin with.

Marcia Brady and Adrienne Manning. I'd watch that.

If it's Ravens/Niners, I'll be rooting for the apocalyptic return of the Great Old Ones, a meteorite strike on the stadium, a massive invasion of C.H.U.D.s, or some such catastrophe.

2012-01-17 12:58:07 PM
Hmm.

Either an Superbowl XLII rematch or a Harbowl would give the brainless media types automatic talking points and a thought-free narrative. The entire leadup would be even more moronic than usual.

So I think either Patriots/49ers or Ravens/Giants would be preferable to the other two.

2012-01-17 01:03:49 PM
I know this is a very cynical thing for me to say, but if the Pats vs the Giants means more money for the NFL, then it will happen. It doesn't really matter what the players think is going to happen through their play. I have seen enough evidence the last few years to understand that the NFL,while not outright fixing their games(yet...), will do everything short of shooting Frank Gore and Ray rice in the face to make sure that the match-up that makes the NFL the most money will happen. I fully feel that the NFL is pushing their officials in the direction of making calls that cause things to go better for the NFL stars and teams that they are pushing...

Nah, if it was rigged the Packers would've won with all the help the ref's were trying to throw their way.

Very cool. In that same stretch the AFC has been represented by 4 different teams, the Raiders once, the Colts twice, the Steelers three times and the Pats four times. So a Pats-Niners matchup would keep the NFC streak going and continue the top-heavy run by the AFC.

/Nevermind that Baltimore played in the Super Bowl prior to this streak
