Wait, what?

Article says she fell from a 10th floor apartment to a 7th floor balcony. Did the retard who submitted this even read the article?

Why was this even approved? The mods suck and I need a drink.

Why do stupid people seem to think that just because you're high up, you'll fall in a diagonal line towards your target? If you're 30 feet up and the pool is 10 feet out, you still have to be able to jump 10 lateral feet in order to land in the pool.

What does the article have to do with a pool, submitter?

Oh well, congrats on the cheap green, even if it was unrelated to your headline.

She fell three stories to a seventh floor pool area. They have a pool on the seventh floor it seems.

FTFA:
"The unidentified woman fell from the 10th floor of West 6th, an apartment community near Sixth Street and Forest Avenue, to the seventh-floor pool area sometime before 3 p.m., according to Deems Shepard, a Tempe Fire Department senior fire inspector."

Why the hell would you jump 3 stories onto a billiards table what good could possibly come from tha?

I Withdraw my complaint. Although it doesn't say she was trying to jump into the pool.

When I was a kid we used to go over to a neighbor's house (when their parents were gone) and jump off the roof of their two-story home into the deep end of their backyard pool, which required clearing several feet of concrete/patio/etc. Still amazed none of us ended up dead/in a wheelchair.

Super Mario Physics (similar to Looney Tune physics). If you think really hard about moving forward, once off the ground you should! (according to SMB physics that is).

from the West 6th Tempe webpage:

LEVEL 7
Our resort style pool area will feature a spa, chaise lounges, pool cabanas, fire pits, gas bbq's, jumbo-tron TV and wi-fi hot spot.

She's have to take quite a running jump to reach that pool from those balconies....

Let me see. You had fun, got good exercise, learned to deal with your fears, and a bunch of other good stuff, but you were stupid because there was some potential for injury? Where do you live now, or what do you do, that there is no potential for injury?

Fark Headline: Woman discovers that jumping falling off a thirdtenth-story apartment balcony into near the pool below is much easier in the movies

FTFA: A 22-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after falling three stories at a Tempe apartment building Monday, a fire department official said.

The unidentified woman fell from the 10th floor ... to the seventh-floor pool area

So the only part of the headline that Subby got right was "woman". One out of eighteen words is pretty good.

There is a hotel on the beach in Vero Beach called the Vero Beach Inn (used to be a Sheraton way back in the day). The deep end (8') of the pool is right next a four story open stairwell. When I was around 12 years old my friends and I used to jump off the building into the pool all the time. As I got older (heavier) though, I determined that 8' of water wasn't really enough to break my fall, so I think the last time I did it I was drunk, 20, and about 175 lbs. I hit the bottom pretty hard but not with hyperextended knees, so the bottom of my feet stung a little, that's it.

Thus ended my daredevil years at the Vero Beach Inn.

i think that the headline is referencing the fact that in the movies you can jump into the pool from any height and no harm would occur

/might not be a fact

Now why do I suspect that alcohol was involved?

2012-01-17 11:49:15 AM
My friend Brian Temple
He thought he could make it
So from the third story he jumped.
He missed the swimming pool only by inches
And everyone said he was drunk.

Well, you cam spread your send our and gain some lateral movement, like a flying squirrel.

Sort of.

Yes, you have to be able to clear 10 lateral feet during the entire jump, but your forward momentum will carry you forward the whole time you are in the air and make you follow a parabolic arc (neglecting wind resistance, which is small at human jumping speeds). So if you are 30ft up and 10ft out, then you only have to be able to jump roughly 5ft straight out to have enough velocity to make your trajectory achieve 10ft of final lateral distance. I can do a 6ft broad jump (both feet flat on the floor with no steps), so with a 1 foot take-off I think a normal person can easily achieve 5ft straight out.
