Looks like India is following the MLS model.

Robbie, I love you for everything you've done for LFC and the city of Liverpool in general.

For the love of all that is good and holy, don't do this to yourself. Just hang up your boots.

This is good to see. Indians, despite sucking at the game themselves, are mad about football.

IPL has been a success, but it opens up a lot of room for corruption (because, well, that's what Indians in high power do best)

Still, given the opportunity, the sport would explode in that country.

Indians are obsessed with celebrities. If it's anything like the IPL most of the crowd will be too busy watching the Bollywood stars on the upper balconies to actually view the game.

Oooh look, Shah Rukh Khan is waving to the crowd!

It's fascinating that a 30 year long contract has been signed. Someone just farked up big time. Even a five year contract would have been optimistic given the fickle nature of Indian fans.

Paul Scholes missed out on some quick rubies!

The "season" will be from February 25 to April 8. Considering Pires says he could get up to €790,000, that's over €100,000 per week.

No. Looks like they're following the NASL model. Grab a bunch of big names to dazzle a country that doesn't give a shiat about soccer, bury the local talent, watch league implode and locals go back to not caring about soccer.

India has roughly the same success with soccer leagues as pre-MLS America does.

My guess is that they're eskimo brothers, several times over?

FTA: "A cricket-dominated India ranks a dismal 162 in Fifa's rankings despite its huge population but 60 million Indians tuned in to the English Premier League's 2009-10 season."

lolwut

India might suck at football, but they're still fanatical about the sport.

Why? He clearly enjoys playing football and isn't so full of himself to think that playing in countries like Australia and India is beneath him.

60 million is equal to 15 million people in the US. Good but not exactly fanatical.

I'm not trying to knock him, he obviously thinks he's still got some skill or he would have called it a career long ago. I just hate seeing legends like him (especially guys I supported) keep going out there when they're clearly past their prime to get that one last check. Go out like Jordan, leave your fans wanting just one more.

\What are you talking about?
\\Jordan was never on the Wizards.
\\\Stop drinking so much.

He should have retired before he played for Perth Glory. Or before he became the player/manager for a Thai Premier League club called Muangthong United. And if you're wondering which other United they model themselves after...
