Dude wrestles, powerlifts, fights in MMA, and now climbs mountains. Pretty badass little dude.

I worked today for the first time in 3.5 months. After sitting on my ass for so long, you're damn right it was an accomplishment.

I'm pretty sure walking to work is harder than hiking Kilimanjero. BFD. Lemme know when he frees The Nose.

2012-01-16 05:46:24 PM
That person required less oxygen for the climb and was significantly lighter than he should have been.

Those are a couple of big advantages for something like that.

yeah whatever, what are the rules... no kicking or hitting in the head or chest and only submission can be used?

I bet he dont actually climb the mountain either. just endures it while someone pulls him hum.

How the hell does he do in MMA? Wrestling, I can see, but MMA?!

OK. There are a number of severely handicapped people who practice martial arts. However, there is NO WAY that a person of even moderate skill couldn't beat the crap out of them if they went all out. It's good that the able-bodied don't, it speaks to kindness and respect, but a competitor with no legs and only partial arms who isn't knocked out in seconds is being pitied. Maybe it's the right thing to do, maybe not.

my butt is three times as lazy as this guy is driven, it also weighs roughly three times what he does.
on top of that, there was some snow this morning and a real possible chance of maybe slippery driving conditions and some coldness. so... yeah pretty impressive.

2012-01-16 05:49:17 PM
I was thinking he'd be easy prey in an MMA match, but after further thought none of his limbs can be submitted, and the rules don't allow you to kick a guy sitting on the ground, so the matches would instead be incredibly boring.

But still, good for him. Living his dreams despite physical reality.

How is he a "hero" exactly. I admit it's an amazing PERSONAL feat. I just can't see the heroic.

He just sits there and takes a beating.

I could have faced Tyson in his prime. It wouldnt have been pretty, but I could have faced him (for about two seconds).

Subby, why must you constantly belittle my great accomplishments? You ever tried going to work with a bad case of whiskey sh*ts and a splitting headache? That's true grit, son.

Well, to be honest, not having to put on socks, shoes, and gloves does appear to offer a significant advantage.

I don't mean to be indelicate, but I don't see it in this article or elsewhere...How is he climbing?

Does he have an extension for each limb that are climbing hooks? Or is he just being 'backpacked' by another team member?

I legitimately interested in the mechanics of this whole thing. I could see him having special attachments but...I'm really just curious.

Whereas I admire that guy's dedication and training, were *I* an MMA fighter, I'd flat out refuse to fight him. There is nothing to gain by fighting a guy with no legs and flipper-hands. If you win, you gain nothing, but if you lose, you lost to a flipper-man. Nope!

There was an article a few months go where he was training by climbing Stone Mountain in Atlanta. He had the stubs of his apendages wrapped in heavy duty tape so he could do most of the hiking himself. While Kilimanjaro is much more of a hike than a climb it's not a paved sidewalk either. There are plenty of places where he would have to had help but that would mostly be a lift up here and there. I'm going to guess the most difficult part for him was the mountain of scree that must be climbed through on summit day. It'd be quite difficult to not inhale a lung full of dust being as close to the ground as he is not to mention he could easily end up rolling down because the scree is so loose especially after daybreak. Quite the accomplishment!

Well of course he could, he has less weight to pull around than the rest of us. See if he could do it with both legs and arms. That would impress me.
