Hm...I dunno. That was a really powerful episode. I'd hate to see all the pathos of it retconned out by Madame de Pompadour becoming 11's Companion.

I think they might just be saying the actress is coming back as a different character?

But yes very strong episode indeed.

I hope so. That chick was hot. Great chesticles.

David Tennant dated her for a while before he married his daughter. Who also has a right nice set of jubblies.

Now Jenny would make for an interesting Companion.

Yes. Everyone else, including that starving child in the middle of Africa, has seen Doctor Who.

I'd rather see Jenny or Sally Sparrow return. But I love me some Sophia Myles so I won't complain.

Roook: I'd rather see Jenny or Sally Sparrow return. But I love me some Sophia Myles so I won't complain.

I think that Sally's story, much like Madame de Pompadour's, is finished, honestly, unless it was something about her having seen the Angels, and imprinting on her. (That whole "an image of an Angel being an Angel" thing.) I'm serious...Jenny would make a great companion. Seeing her initial confusion of Matt Smith vs David Tennant, making jokes all season about being married to the Doctor. It's comedy gold, I tell ya!

No.

That episode was before Tennant went full on scenery chewer, and showed how the can actually do some decent drama in genre fiction. One of the best stand alone episodes ever. It barely needed to be Doctor Who to work as an effective, compelling story.

Smith has turned the show back into kiddie TV. NTTAWWT, but to bring Madame du Pompadour into the current iteration of the show would really piss on the best of what has gone before, in a very weak retread, pillage-your-best-work, Phantom Menace/Highlander 2 kind of way.

No.

I could see Madame de Pompadour as a companion for one half to a full series, but only if Lady Christina de Souza also joined at the same time to juxtapoise the characters.

//By series I mean a series of filmed threesomes with me playing the Doctor.

Yes, but Tipping the Scales [or whatever name it would have] needs to be post-watershed, though (after 9:00 pm / 21:00, like Torchwood was), if it is to be good.

Meanwhile, Ace can have a kids' spin-off to replace TSJA.

If she returns as another character, I'd be fine with that, but the Madame du Pompador story is told, it ended perfectly, and to bring her back would ruin things.

Wellll.... yeah..... but there is the whole not knowing what's going on, not knowing where it's going, we have to figure out this problem or bad things will happen.... the suspense. How about that? I'm trying to get him to open his TV world up past CSI.

OOOH and Unicorn & the Wasp was definitely in the mystery genre!

Sally Sparrow isn't coming back because Carey Mulligan's movie career is going too well right now. There's no way they'd be able to afford what it would cost to keep her schedule tied up for a year or two.

Hey now, they did explore the mature drama inherent in trying to keep your sex life going when your girlfriend is a paving stone.

Agreed on the Daleks. Cybermen really do give me the willies, though. I like episodes that involve the Doctor, so pretty much all of them except Love & Monsters.

Evil space nanny was probably my favorite episode but on the other hand, I might be an 8 year old trapped in a grown woman's body so..... take that as you will.

Thank you for saving me the trouble of posting that pic in response.

And Sophia Myles is freaking gorgeous. There was some awful Jim Caviziel thing on SyFy (ugh, I still feel dirty just typing that) that I simply HAD to keep watching because she was in it. *drool*

I stumbled around trying to include Love & Monsters in my examples of not-Smith childishness, but couldn't figure out how to with out making fun of the kid who created the Absorbaloff-whatever.... so I didn't.

No problems there, I've been known to secretly smile whenever anyone picks an Adipose stress toy and giggles at the store because adorable is adorable. I'm just saying that approachable to children and the child in all of us isn't necessarily the same as being "TV for kiddies".

So you keep on, keeping on because that inner 8 year old is enjoying the heck out of it.

Is The Girl in the Fireplace returning to Doctor Who?

Of course she is. Followed shortly thereafter by another visit by the Weeping Angels, another updated paint job for the Daleks, a "surprise" revisit by River, all packaged into a plot that is so over-convoluted and contrived that the final episode will be patently ridiculous and full of "inverse tachyon pulse" gimmickry to get himself out of the corner he writes himself into. The exception will be one episode that will be the equivalent of "Dr. Who meets the Wizard of Oz" or some such other rehashed nonsense that relieves Moffatt of having to write anything at all.

Oh wait...that was last season. And the season before. Bloody hell, it has been every season since Moffatt took charge, why should this one be different?
