They were sent to a death camp. See, Auschwitz was a concentration camp. Sure, they killed people, but some who arrived would be sent to work instead of the gas. At Sobibor and Treblinka, the only reason to arrive was to be sent straight away to the gas. Aside from a small cadre of workers to operate the ovens (who themselves were regularly "recycled"), there was nothing else.

There's a very good chance the North Korean nuclear weapons work as well as the Ryugyong Hotel. There's also a very good chance that their nuclear weapon delivery mechanism is "blow ourselves up if we're ever invaded", since it doesn't appear they have any type of missiles, aircraft, or artillery capable of delivering a nuclear bomb.

I really can't imagine how you think invading North Korea is going to help anything.

They do have delivery capabilites. In fact, they even export their missiles to Iran. These capabilites may not be reliable, and as you point out, their bombs may not even work but they do have them.

If I was DKRP leadership, I would be riding that trump card all the way to the bank....which they are! The North has no plans to get involved in a war, especially a nuclear one.

Assuming for the sake of argument that what they have is anything more than a firecracker with some uranium strapped to it, invading a nation and threatening the existence of a personality cult leader who couldn't give two shiats about the people under his rule takes away the only incentive that North Korea has *not* to blow up Seoul.

I still haven't seen a good reason for invading Best Korea.

The north has made sure that the cost of "regime change" would be far too high for any one who's sane to consider. Large portions of the north and south would end up as smoking ruins.

Not even George W. thought it worth the effort, or that it could be done without at least a very high risk of massive civilian casualties.

The smoking ruin from artillery is quite overstated. It hasn't been true since about the mid-'90s. This is mostly due to their degraded training and readiness situation, although their maintenance has been shoddy at best. So between poor training, poor equipment, and the fact that there isn't some poor sod holding a lanyard 24/7, the ability for NK to do much to SK is highly dependent on their acting first.

And what about rocket artillery? Seoul is 35 miles from the border, and NK is estimated to have a huge number of rockets that can launch in a moments notice. The north is also well known to have a large stockpile of chemical weapons loaded on many of those rockets. Sure half of those rockets may not work, but Seoul has one of the highest population densities of any city in the world. How many chemical rockets would it take to cause mass casualties?

We must immediately start putting more Kpop in Best Korea's black market. That dear lardo leader of theirs needs someone to set an example for him of how a healthy body can move and groove. Through some regular dance classes his fat will melt away and before you know it he will be in a much better mood. Still crazy but at least more jovial.

Here is my ethical justification for nuking N. Korea.

You know that show hoarders? Those people take in those animals because they feel sorry for them right? Well what happens when that gets out of control? The people cleaning up the joint find like 30 dead cats. Why don't we just do that with N. Korea? Take away all their people (nuke them) so they can't continue to oppress. Sure we'd be killing off a lot of innocent people, but it's better for them to die so the cycle of oppression no longer continue.

Waddaya think?

ok ok, I'll admit it's akin to throwing a battered woman in jail to prevent the man from beating her

Nothing is ready to launch in a moment's notice. You don't leave that kind of equipment out in the rain, snow, etc. It has to be set up, aimed, and taken down, maintained, etc. That's the part they've been short on. If it really HAS been set up all this time, it's almost as likely to explode in the launcher as it is hit Seoul.

Chemical weapons changes the situation entirely and would receive a nuclear retaliation. Since NK's missiles are dependent on trivially-detected above-ground launch facilities (they don't have the mobile launchers the Soviets and Chinese did/do), they may as well just nuke Seoul at the outset.
