First the Patriots, now the Packers. The Giants have played the monsters of football in the regular season and made adjustments to win in the playoffs. Sounds like Coughlin does his job unusually well. I'm not saying he's going to Canton (although my money is on Eli going), but at the moment, I am positively disposed towards Coughlin's chances.

I think they prefer Guangzhou to Canton now

It's at least worth considering if the Giants make the Super Bowl. Coughlin's body of work both here and in Jacksonville is impressive, and I give him credit for softening a bit after a rough start here. I'm not saying he should/will make it (I honestly don't care that much) but I don't see someone getting laughed out of the room for bringing it up.

But you have to take the sports pages/radio with a grain of salt. A month ago they were wondering if he would be fired.

Two more wins. Just give us two more wins Tom, and you're off the hook for the rest of your life.

To make it over the guys with 2 rings that aren't in the Giants would have to A) Make it to the Super Bowl and B) Slaughter whoever they play.

He'll need a stamp on his resume that isn't "2 players both make their career plays on the SAME play on the same game winning drive".

To be fair, if Barber hadn't retired early, he'd probably have ended up top ten all-time in rushing yards, top five all-time in yards from scrimmage, and yes, would have ended up in Canton.

The NY media says a lot of shiat us fans don't agree with. Tiki didn't stick around long enough, and wasn't dominant in a short career like Barry Sanders.

Coughlin did take a brand new expansion team to 2 AFC championship games, plus won a Superbowl with the Giants and has taken them thus far to another NFC championship game. He's won his division 7 times. Pretty good numbers and he's not done yet, win or lose this Sunday. We'll have to wait and see.

But it cracks me up that they say the NY fans wanted him fired if they lost to the Jets and missed the playoffs. NO one wanted him fired. Same with Joe Torre (The Yankees even tried to get the fans to turn on him, didn't work). When you win here, you're royalty (we're not Boston).

Isn't Tom Coughlin the coach that all Giants fans hope gets fired at the beginning of the season? Cause it always seems like Giants fans can't stand the guy.

Best In The World: "What we talk about is great effort, outstanding preparation, and being the very best that you can be. If you are as good as you can possibly be, the rest of that stuff will take care of itself. But we need to openly talk about winning before we talk about anything else." - Tom Coughlin

Don't get it twisted. Coach Coughlin absolutely deserves 2 be in the Hall. Why wouldn't he be? Has he not won a title? He is gonna win himself another title in a few weeks. With 2 rings that's all you need.

Who better than Coughlin?

Bill Parcells? That was before I was even born. Stop kissing up 2 tha past cuz truth is that any coach who got himself 2 rings belongs. He up there with all the best like Dungy, Gruden, Belichick, Holmgren, Cowher, Payton, and Billick. This you cannot deny.

Can you translate that into honky?

This.

People also have to realize there are 100,000 sports columnists/tv hosts/radio personalities in the NYC area. There just isn't enough real sports topics to talk about to fill up all the time they need to. Sometimes, they gotta make this shiat up so they have something to talk about.

Pre-elbow surgery Jake Delhomme The Delhomme. In the Superbowl he had a higher QB rating than the man that just slew Teebus.

Coughlin is one of the best coaches at making adjustments and learning from losses. That doesn't mean Canton though. There's only one coach in the League right now worth of Canton. And f*cking hate him.

As a Giants fan I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Both Coughlin and Eli have been very inconsistent in their abilities to produce results. I am guilty of getting angry and wanting them traded or fired. However, I am man enough to admit both of them have been performing far beyond my expectations in the last month.

Does that mean Coughlin deserves to be in the Hall of Fame? That's up to the league to decide.

Why Would I Read the Article: Eli Manning: No

Manning needs just over 12,000 yards to make 40,000 for his career. That means less than 4 full seasons of staying healthy. He needs 115 TDs for 300 passing TDs for his career. He can get that in at worst a bit over 4 seasons. If you get over 40,000 yards and 300 TDs, you go to Canton. Also there's the fact Eli is now only the fifth QB ever to throw for 4,000 yards in at least 3 consecutive seasons.

I'm a Giants fan. I can't believe we've made it this far. Who cares about the super bowl? I'm just proud of the way my team's been playing. If we lose next week I can end this season with a smile on my face. That's all anyone can ask for.

Also have you heard? Victor Cruz did a Lambeau Leap and still hasn't landed yet.

Passing yards don't mean anything in today's NFL. Every QB racks those up by the truckload. If you honestly think Manning is a hall of fame quarterback, I dunno what to tell you.

Less than 60% completion, a 1.5:1 TD/INT ratio, and a QB rating of 82. These are not hall of fame numbers, sorry.

I would have said that if the Giants had lost to Green Bay, but at this point there isn't anybody in front of them they can't beat and you don't get this opportunity very often. They have to take advantage now.

Besides, we're not Jets fans, so reaching the NFC Championship Game isn't an accomplishment worth noting.

Although I'm neglecting the possibility of Eli going to Joe Namath route and getting in with awful (for HOF standards) numbers just because he played and won a SB in New York, so there's that.

So i won't discount the possibility that he might one day get in, but he, like Namath, sure as hell won't deserve it.

They haven't finished under .500 since Eli's rookie season, The missed the playoffs at 10-6 last year, which is extremely rare and have only missed the playoffs one other year since both have been here. If the Giants win the next 2 games, he'll equal Bill Parcels 8-3 Giants playoff record. Both of Parcells SB teams had byes in the the first round, Coughlins Giants would have had to win 4 both times. This has been one of the few consistent Giants eras in their history.

Why Would I Read the Article: Every QB racks those up by the truckload

That would explain why Eli is only the fifth QB ever to pass for 4,000 yards in three or more consecutive seasons. Most QBs never have 3 4,000 yard seasons in their careers. When you do something that's only been done by Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, you are very very good. And 300 career passing TDs is a very very rare thing. So far only six QBs have done it, Brees will get there next year so it'll be 7. As for 40,000 passing yards, Brees is there, Brady will be there after a couple more games, and then among active QBs, if McNabb finds a starting job he can get there, Hasselbeck would need a couple more seasons and he's already an old QB, then there's Manning.

Yes, because Eli's career resume is complete here in January 2012. He certainly won't play another several seasons in which it's conceivable his numbers will reach your lofty HOF standards.

If he gets 40,000 yards, which he only needs to stay healthy to do, if he gets 300 passing TDs, ditto, he'll have earned it. That's a combo of stats that is so rare, that if you get it, you're in.

By a few measures, yes he is.

He has no argument, first he says no, then when people call him on it, he'll get in due to "NY Bias".

Here's the complete list of QBs who have 40,000 yards and 300 TDs, Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, Fran Tarkenton. Drew Brees has 40,000 yards but needs 19 more TDs for 300, Brady has 300 TDs and needs 21 yards for 40,000.

Today's NFL is nothing like the league that Fouts and Marino played in, as evidenced by the fact that we had 587 qb's throw for 5,000 yards this year. Eli is certainly not in the top tier with Peyton, Brees, Brady et al. But he's probably in that second tier with Kerry Collins, Hasselbeck, McNabb, etc.

So if the committee wants to put every QB who ever played in the hall, then sure. But Eli is probably 10-12th in line with other contemporary or recently retired QB's o to get in. I'd be stunned if he makes it.

Not too fond of Gilbride, and whoever our trainer is needs to re-evaluate his approach, but overall Tom is the bomb.

If Eli retired today, he absolutely shouldn't make it. And I agree with you on the passing yards. Given the era they're somewhat meaningless.

But he's got a lot of years left. Really his career at this point can be divided into two 4-year halves, and the second half is really, *really* good. The first four years are holding his career totals down, but they'll factor in less as time goes by. He did throw a lot of picks last year, but quite a few of those were tipped off his own receivers' hands. And speaking as someone who's watched just about every game he's played, he makes much fewer "WTF WAS HE THINKING?!?!" throws now.

I'm not saying Eli will definitely make it, but I think he's got too much of his career left to just dismiss the idea.

For some perspective, Eli Manning has more passing yards and TDs, than Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger, Carson Palmer and Phillip Rivers. Among active QBs the only ones with more yards than Eli are Jon Kitna, Mark Brunell, Matt Hasselback, Donavan McNabb, hey he hasn't filed fire retirement yet, Kerry Collins, Peyton Manning Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Among active QBs the only ones with more passing TDs, are Hasselback, Collins, McNabb, Peyton, Brees and Brady.
