Remember how the original predictions for life 100 years from now were made in 1900 by the greatest scientific minds of the time? Yeah, this time, the predictions are made by idiots submitting stuff over the internet.

12. California will lead the break-up of the US (Dev 2)
IP: Likelihood 8/10. There are some indications already that California wants to split off and such pressures tend to build over time. It is hard to see this waiting until the end of the century.
Umm, what?

I pray to see #12 in my lifetime or perhaps my childrens' lifetime.
I've never really heard any desire on the part of California though, they're pretty dependent on federal funding at the moment, not to mention they lack the appropriate population mixture to maintain a suitable military.

There was a series of books in the 1970's called "The People's Almanac". They had a bunch of predictions in it, it was so successful, they released a book just called the book of predictions. Most of it was way out there, but the funniest one
"With declining education and a poor economy, you'll see more and more people become landscapers"
I don't think I have to tell you how that turned out

Futurists are notoriously unreliable prophets. However, at the very least, they base their predictions on some germ of plausible science or research rather than wild speculation based on some cool idea somebody saw in a movie.

The one I'm calling bullshiat on is actually......the language one.
Yes, hundreds of tiny languages will disappear in favor of the more dominant ones in their area, but languages that as of right now have millions of speakers, like say, Dutch, or Arabic, or Gujarati, will still be around 100 years from now. Speaking a second or third language for business reasons will not cause people to drop their native language. Language simply doesn't work that way. Only being conquered by and/or heavily intermarrying with different a different language group causes a language to disappear.

My prediction:
World population less than 1 billion. Nothing close to an operating government, society mostly resembles what we had in the dark ages (feudalism). Women are chattel again. Slavery exists as it did in Roman times. Average life expectancy in the 30s.
When it crashes, it will crash hard. Think Fallout, but without the radioactive wasteland. Millions of desparate people would lay waste to the infrastructure far more effectively than nuclear bombs....
Hell, we have an economic downturn and the looters of society immediately start stripping the copper out of expensive air conditioning units and the catalytic converters out of functioning cars. And since we don't MAKE ANYTHING here anymore, there will be no recovery.

I'm not so sure.
Currently the upper end of a human lifespan is somewhere around 120.
Living to 150 or more could well be possible by then, and if so then those people who do it must be alive today.
The only parts I call absolute bullshiat on is the idea that we'll all hold hands and start to agree on things like government, money, sexuality and science.
So long as the concept of sovereignty still exists, there will be multiple powers trying to fight so that each has their own way.
With everyone trying to be the law and everyone else trying to skirt it, I see more nations being made rathe than less.
