Kelly Clarkson has done well for herself in her genre and Carrie Underwood is one of the highest paid chicks in Country Music right now.

But yeah, most of the 'winners' drop off the face of the Earth...or they're swallowed back up into whatever attention-whore-hell spawned them.

Daughtry aka PWE only made it to 4th place. Sometime later he ended up with his name in a giant tattoo across his shoulders.

His band needs a better guitarist. Haven't bothered listening to his second album but on his first the ballads were good but only one of the rock tunes was actually good - the one with Slash doing guest duties on guitar.

And as far as his not winning it looked like a case of overconfidence. The show relies on spam voting by the really dedicated fans. He was considered such a heavy favorite that a bunch of people shifted to save someone else by spam voting for him instead of Daughtry assuming that others would carry Daughtry thru. He got the boot as the 4th contestant left.

Probably the best thing that could've happened to him though, the winner accepts a set contract agreed to from the beginning. The losers have to honor some touring obligations but then are free to set up their own contracts if anyone's interested afterwards.
