How much air time did he actually get?

seems it was the announcer introducing most of the presenters.

I could not understand a word he said. Is he supposed to sound like that?

He was making fun of The Beaver, not Leave it to Beaver. Though, I can excuse the slip up since Leave it to Beaver was relevant around the time Jodi Foster last was

"Ward, I think you're being a little hard on the Beaver."

All in all, a fairly tepid performance for an award show nobody really cares about.

I can understand the confusion. It's often very difficult to understand English when you've been hearing it butchered for generations.

Unfortunately Subby, you're right. That was the best highlight, so that tells you how much tthe rest of it sucked.

Ricky Gervais is Ricky Gervais' biggest fan.

Well, if the entire punchline hadn't been muted, the crack about Banderas and Hayek would probably be the best highlight. It had me laughing and shaking my head.

Yeah, the novelty wore off some time ago, and I think his ego is writing checks his comedic talent just can't cash. It's depressing.

Tell me the award show hasn't been broadcast yet, decided to grab a torrent and couldn't find one.

There are torrents for Manimal and Automan out there but not this.

At least the snark last year was something new, if uncomfortable. It was entertaining at least.

This year he was barely on and when he was - they weren't very entertaining jokes. Maybe he was rocking the house during commercials.

"So, what did you think...did Ricky Gervais not go far enough, or was he the usual equal opportunity offender? Personally, we wish that he'd push the envelope a little bit more"

No, you don't, you just have a bored idiot writing copy who needed to fill in 10 seconds of dead air and funnel people into your worthless social marketing campaigns.

What did he do last year that was so bad?

I don't watch Award Shows because I actually enjoy my life.

He basically did what ITGs do all day, except he did it on stage in front of his victims and on live TV.

Yet you're curious enough to come to Fark and ask strangers about his performance.

Shouldn't you be out enjoying your life?

I'm in the minority that has always found him smug and unfunny.

After watching part of an episode of "An idiot abroad" I've started hoping the "idiot" goes postal and beats him to death with a tire iron.

AYHSMB, I liked Gervais' performance and generally find his insult comedy pretty funny. would have liked to see more of him though.

It's a shame the Hollywood Foreign Press neutered him. They had a chance this year to make the Globes stand out from the Oscars, turn it into more of a party atmosphere, and make it a lot less stuffy.
Instead, they got Gervais, but warned him against going too far. Guy had a chance to become the Don Rickles of awards shows, but God forbid you make Brangelina feel uncomfortable for a few minutes.

Personally, I'd like to see Ricky take a stab at the Independent Spirit Awards. No time limit, no censorship, and everyone is getting loaded on free vodka and Jamesons. Say what you will about art house filmmakers and performers, but at least they don't mind laughing at themselves.

What's the point in taking the piss out of those people? Then it's mean-spirited. At the Globes and Oscars, I assume everyone is coked up to the gills anyway, so who cares?

First off, if you hire Ricky Gervais, you should expect some mean spirited humor. Feigning outrage at that is like booking the Rolling Stones, then complaining that Keith Richards is smoking in the room. They knew exactly what they were getting.

Second, why not take the piss out of them? It lightens everyone up and helps get rid of the air of self-importance. Just because you're nominated for a film on the plight of lesbian coal miners with spinabifida during the Holocaust doesn't mean you need to treat the recognition like you're up for a farking Nobel Prize.

And if you're talking about taking the piss out of indie filmmakers, there's a lot of crossover between them and the Oscar nominees, especially in recent years. The difference is when the nominees are at the Spirit awards, they actually appear to be enjoying it. They treat the Oscars and the Globes like a freaking church service in comparison.

I didn't take the joke "a lot of guys haven't seen it either" as a jab at her sexuality, but the look on Elton John's face makes me think most people did.

/ Elton John's reaction was show on this particular clip

I really like Jodie Foster. I only wish there was some way I could show her how much I like her.
