It's even more amazing that a GM made vehicle made it for 33 years without rusting away or falling apart.

Coincidentally, it's also where they were both conceived.

The 63 Chevy II was a much better designed car than the 63 Invader was.

I think the real story here is that people feel it's acceptable to name their baby boy "Hayden"

Me too, 70's GMC's were known for their tendency to turn into a pile of rust after about 10 years.

/Dad had one
//Had excellent 4WD though

The grandson's name is "Hayden". They should have used a New Beetle or PT Cruiser festooned with plastic "chrome".

eeh. its a cute human interest story. Grand pa is honering the legacy of his cancer dead wife by bringing home thier grand kids in the same truck he used to bring home the kids.

The truck has been in the family for so long.. well.. the truck is kinda.. a member of the family. none of the kids can ever remember a time when the truck wasn't around.
pretty much a simular reason I keep the old Ram D150 and Ford escort around.

cant sell them. there really isnt a point as I wouldnt get anything for them, and they're good back up vehicles.

hell the escort is a 92, almost 400k miles on it, single owner, still runs fine.. hell the damn thing is like an old aunt right now.. you wanna just dump her off at the old folks home to die, but you just don't have the heart. she's still moving around and has some fun stories to tell

That's very true, but I still have a special spot in my heart for that car. I made the huge mistake of selling it, because my ex couldn't drive a stick. (It was a 3 in the tree)

Nothing against his car in particular. Them things' are deathtraps.

My old neighbor brought each of his kids home in a new S4. 3 kids - 3 new S4's. I thought for sure when he bought his 4th another crotchfruit would be dropping soon but alas, nada. He now owns a R8 so I'm assuming his wife is popping out a soccer team or something.

It is so bizarrly and absolutely amazing anyone survived in the 60s in pre-Nader era vehicles. It wont be long before there is an outright ban on driving anything on the roads made before 1990...the EPA being the first to ban old cars because our smog problems are because of them.

Yeah, well, it's not the Gummint that's going to ban fathers from driving their kids in pre 1990 car -- Hell hath no something something than a MOMMY.

Just see how many Moms let their kids walk to school. The US Government could ban all automobiles, and you'd still have every schoolkid dropped off at school by Moms in their now contraband 4800 lb, seats-8 5-liter SUV with 16 coffee cup holders.

(And the US Government would lose, too)

I have the car I came home from the hospital in when I was born - '65 Porsche 356C coupe.

Was running good when the daughter was born, wife wouldn't hear of it. No seat belts in back, lap belts only in front, too low to the ground.

Was running good when the son was born almost 4 years later. Same excuses.

Wasn't running when daughter #2 was born... don't think it would've mattered.

With all 3, within the first few days while Mommy was napping I'd sneak outside and just hold 'em in my arms and sit in it.

Here's boy at about 18 months...

Heck, right now there's probably someone with a 1997 model car/truck who brought his kid home from the hospital in it, and will be returning to the hospital to see his grandson in it.

No big deal, really, if it's a '79............

/A book that came out in 1998 reported on genetic studies using fruit flies aimed at speeding up, and also slow down, aging/breeding. The ones that had short generations and reproduced fast were nicknamed "trailer park flies" (heh!), the ones with longer generations and lifespans were the "Methuselah flies" (title of book):

I miss my 79 Ford f-150. It was my first vehicle so it was a fixer upper with it being in the early 90's when I got it. Was a good truck but I joined the Navy out of highschool and didn't really see it as something to drive across the country in so I sold it before bootcamp. Had a 351 4 barrel in it, new black paint, fat tires that looked cool but would hydroplane easily =(....etc etc etc. I don't think kids these days really start with fixed up old vehicles like they did when I was just starting to drive. They more like get a Civic that's 10 years old and try to rice it out like they're on the set of Fast and Furious.

I came home from the hospital in a '67 Pontiac Tempest. It could have been a T-Bird if my mother hadn't been too scared to drive the Tempest back to Michigan from Oklahoma on her own. But no, she couldn't do that and my dad had to tell his army buddy no on the T-Bird. Then they went all "family" and started buying Ford Mavericks. My dad and I used to call them a "poor man's Mustang". You know, I'd actually kill for a Ford Maverick, lots of great childhood memories.

/But the first public place I went after being born was a bar. So I have that.
//Dad wanted to show off his first born to all his buddies.

My mom had a cherry 76 Maverick, red with black interior. Dad had it Ziebarted when new. Only thing that rusted was the back bumper mount which had some shock absorbing thing in it and it almost dropped the bumper. We replaced that, good as new. Mom gave the Maverick to my niece, who promptly totaled it pulling out in front of a truck. Niece made it thru ok with just bumps and bruises. Good cars.

Oh, hey, look - somebody makes the same stupid comment about GM again.

This is one of their pickup trucks. GM has always been very good at making pickup trucks.

These are vehicles that get abused, get lots of miles, and still keep going. It's not unusual to see a '70s GM pickup truck on the road, it's not even that uncommon to see one from the '60s.
