"Fewer and fewer people have more and more guns. Twenty percent of gun owners possess about 65 percent of the guns. . . . They're stockpiling."

In other news, it still only takes one bullet to take out a gun owner.

/Ya gotta admire the guns and ammo marketing people, don't cha?

Business Week disagrees with you about the economy, subby. But what would they know, right?

I wonder if this has anything to do with a presidential election coming up. The gun makers love Obama as he is helping them indirectly as the crack-pots think that "Obama is gonna take our guns away!1!1" so they go and buy every gun they can.

Don't be silly

You should have all the guns you need already.

What you may need is more ammo.

yeah, but you gotta be a better shot. If you can't shoot a four minute-of-angle grouping, you're pretty farked. Most gun owners don't just collect, they hone their skills.

As for me, I collect, but not heavily. I am more interested in the ability to hone one's skills with a gun. And I personally believe in the notion of having guns for different ranges. I have a 7.62x51 for 500 yard shooting, a 12 gauge for CQB, and very soon, going to have an AR15 in some sort of carbine format for in between. And I also have a .22LR for the kids, which stays in my gun safe.

and I have ASSLOADS of ammo. Just ridiculous amounts.

I find it hilarious that the irrational behavior of - ehm, firearms enthusiasts? - is held up as some sort of point scored against the administration. But it's good for the economy, so do carry on.

Even more interesting than the article are the comments. Absolutely pathetic fear driven paranoia.

If you think a dozen guns and a few thousand rounds of ammunition will enable your survival when society collapses, you are an idiot.

2012-01-15 05:42:40 PM
It also helps that there seem to be a lot of people trying to SELL their firearms, often at discounted prices.

2012-01-15 05:44:55 PM
So when the economy is bad more people buy guns? Just what we need, bunch of people incapable of holding down a job stockpiling weapons. This will end well.

He's just allowing Holder to sell them to drug cartels carte blanche.

Well ya, but when anarchical collapse of society occurs, it doesn't hurt to have those things.

I don't have a lot of ammo, but I do have cop and emt pals, so I feel we should be able to conquer grosse ile. I won't be in charge, but I can handle a fun and they'll need some bridge guards i'm sure.

I'll probably get sniped though.

Smackledorfer: when anarchical collapse of society occurs, it doesn't hurt to have those things.

When the anarchical collapse of society occurs, it hurts whether you have a gun or not, in ways no one here has any farking clue. No one born and raised in America has any clue. Almost without exception, we can't afford to let it happen.

I'm not so retarded as to absurdly exaggerate my survival skills that I think I can survive a full-blown collapse by hunkering down and reading Redneck magazine. The very act of hunkering down assumes the situation is temporary (WTF are you gonna do when the canned food runs out, rob some farmers when they're all already dead?); the only way to live is through the creation of infrastructure -- and no one can do that alone. Which is why, for thousands of years, humans have created societies. And to think, Americans have gotten so stupid as to forget that.

I'm a gun owner. I'm nowhere close to being dense. I own because I can, and I enjoy shooting. Not all gun owners are just chomping at the bit; waiting to use what they own against somebody else.

But I'm sure you'll respond in kind with something well thought-out and rational.

The hardcore survivalist types think they need guns to fight the armed forces of The New World Order that the Liberals are creating.

Never mind that will never happen. And even if it did, the armed forces aren't going to turn on their own people. Not in the US, anyway. And if they DID decide to wage war against the citizens, we are FARKED. Rifles don't beat drones.

You make a valid point, not all gun owners want to shoot other people, sometimes, they shoot themselves! Usually while "cleaning it", a code for "playing with it".

I grew up with guns, I was a cop for fifteen years, I am not at all "anti-gun", I am anti-morons owning guns. The sheer level of stupidity I've seen displayed by people and their guns over the years has somewhat colored my opinion. Yes, there are many capable, responsible people out there who own firearms, they are countered by absolute dolts who think guns are cool toys, or make them cool boys.

Rational and well thought out enough for you?

How much does a PS-90 like that run? Not that I could afford enough ammo to shoot it well, at the prices 5.7mm goes for here.

So, let me get this straight... Violent crime is down year after year and there has been no significant gun banning legislation in a decade, so... go buy guns because... there's a black man in the White House??

Ahh... FTA:

There might not be a growing number of gun owners, Brewer said: "Fewer and fewer people have more and more guns. Twenty percent of gun owners possess about 65 percent of the guns. . . . They're stockpiling."

So the existing nutters are getting nuttier.
