Back in the day when rails were made of wood with an iron strip nailed to the top to take the wear of the trains, the strip used to come loose every now and then and sometimes come up through the bottom of the car like a spear.

I saw an accident on I-5 on Friday. It wasn't what I was hoping for...
Douchebag was weaving in and out of traffic. Tried to pass on the right at the wrong time. Slammed on the brakes, lost control. Ended up sideways in the lane flying towards the median. Hit the side of the road and his car turned sideways a slid a bit.
I stopped... just hoping maybe the douchebag lost an arm for the way he was driving. This guy was seriously driving like a clown.
No such luck. The guy had a small scratch from his window shatter... dumbass was waling and crying like a little girl when we helped him climb out. There were 3 girls in the car that were more man than this puss was. He was seriously waling and screaming. Be a man, you f*cking pussy. Luckily his laptop and PSP got smashed, so that made me feel better.
Yeah, yeah. I'm a bad person. Blah blah blah. Whatever. F*ck this guy. Learn to drive, you retarded nutsack.

At least it made things interesting. The only stretch of road more boring than I-5 between Tracy and Bakersfield is I-29 from Fargo to Grand Forks. This is why cars need autopilot.

Alligator Alley (basically a 2 lane road along the bottom of Florida to get to/fro Miami).
Although I guess it's not too "boring" because if you have a head-on/apply directly to the forehead accident (because of no lights, one of those wicked FL rains, or someone falling asleep)...then it would be quite a while 'til someone came and got you.
Not to mention in some "soft shoulder" stretches...they are basically swamps filled with gators and all kindsa things that would be pissed off if you drove into it or even had to stop for any length of time.

that was not a "steel rod", it looked like a piece of steel bridgeing which is used as something to strengthen structual steel buildings ( and it's pretty damn flimsy), it's not totally impossible for that to go through the floor board of a car, but it's highly unlikely.

I've driven down Alligator Alley plenty of times, sometimes without a phone and it is not fun driving it at night. Dark, middle of an alligator/python infested swamp. All you're thinking the entire time is, "if I break down, I am farked". I can't believe they haven't come up with a better way to get to Miami that doesn't circumnavigate the state.

Couldn't agree more. And if you live on the West Coast of FL you have to basically drive 3-4 hours before you even get the car POINTED in the direction you want to go. And I actually can't remember if they had callboxes every 10 miles or so...it was almost "enter at your own risk".
(I actually did it on a motorcycle once, and a monsoon opened up for an hour but where are you supposed to stop??)
Ironically, I had read that's how a crapton of drugs come up the east cost because 95 is too highly patrolled.

I'll take a flying car powered by "skeeters" than getting blinded by lovebugs.
/never understood why so many bike riders in Florida fought for the no helmet law or would just wear a little leather cap. A few pair of mating lovebugs hitting my faceshield at 85mph would actually move my head back....cant imagine direct skin contact. Pain and the mess...yeck

Concur. I don't remember whether it was Kansas or Missouri, but a college club I was in was traveling to a competition, and the road was so straight that our driver was turning around to engage in conversation. We had to warn him "ROAD IS CURVING" before one of the few bends in the highway.

That all? On a bus on 280 one evening a 2' lump of metal like that with rubber attached came flying through the front of the coach window, bounced off various headrests and the ceiling and hit the back wall. Thankfully the bus was lightly loaded or someone would have been killed. Poor bus drier still had glass shards in his face, though. Totally cool, though, just pulled off at the next exit at stopped somewhere, despite what just went down.

Bridging is used to brace bar joists. That angle looks to be a bit heaver than bridging angle. By eye it looks like 2x2x 1/4. Typical bridging angle is very light, say 1.25 x 1.25 x 1/8".

I got to experience I-44 through Missouri. At night. After being awake for almost 24 hours. Towing a trailer with a not-really-big-enough truck.
I don't remember much of the western half of the state, but the eastern bit was the opposite of straight and flat. The road engineers made the grades (mostly) straight, with sharp kinks at the bottom just for fun. Truck got iffy going downhill at anything over 65, but would slow down to about 45 going up the hills.
On the way back home, we transferred as much stuff as possible from the trailer to the truck, and I slept that leg of the trip.

Yes, but drive between KC and Denver on I-70 and for the vast majority of your trip you will find many many hours of no cows or sheep or anything other than the road and fields. If I remember right there weren't even any trees, just sleep-inducing endless horizon. Add to that completely flat terrain and very few turnoffs.

Don't let statistics fool you - even though red-light cameras often cause more collisions they can still spew the stats to obscure the point that it's just revenue. Likewise with speed limits. And seat belts - why do I have to pay some police/trooper/deputy to have them pull over someone and tell them to wear a seatbelt.
