what a liar

"the pain was unbearable"

well obviously it was bearable as you are still alive. If you are going to lie about such a tiny detail, what else in your storey is a lie?

I know you're kidding, but it says a lot about our whole system that the party in the White House changed and yet nothing seems to be changing at Guantanamo.

Because he's ABSOLUTELY telling the WHOLE truth. 'Cause he says so.

Some of the elders in my town suggested that I travel to Pakistan to study the Qur'an with a religious group there.

I made my plans just before 9/11. I was 19 then and was naive and did not think war in Afghanistan would have anything to do with Pakistan or my trip there.

I was in Pakistan, on a public bus on my way to the airport to return to Germany when the police stopped the bus.

'Cause NOBODY has ever traveled to Pakistan, been trained, and returned to the west to commit terrorist acts. NOBODY.

FARK HIM. I ain't losing a second of sleep over this guy. None.

First of all, I'm as disgusted that GitMo ever existed as the next guy (as long as the next guy isn't Dick Cheney). Second of all, I'm not a doctor.

That stated, wouldn't hanging by the hands result in positional asphyxia? I remember seeing a television program about Christ's crucifixion. There was a doctor who said that victims of crucifixion would have difficulty breathing due to their diaphragm being unable to move in the proper way. I realize that being hanged from the ceiling by one's hands is not the exact same position, but I think it would have a similar effect on the diaphragm.

Any physicians out there care to comment? Could a man be hung from the ceiling by manacled wrists for days and survive? Or is this guy's story (at least this part of it) a lie?

You're missing a very large number of points but I'll start with a simple one: This isn't about one guy except to illustrate how the Rule of Law has been eroded.

This has been your one free clue for 15 January, 2012.

Go back to being a hater.

I've got a buddy who JUST got out of the Army (infantry) and has his "spiderweb" and "skulls" tattoos... and he wont STFU about how he killed this person and that person. Seriously, it's starting to piss me off how much he brags about it. Do you know of any easy and effective way to shut someone like that down, short of just totally ignoring him when he does?

If you support the kafkaesque nightmare that Gitmo is, if you can defend torture (knowing - we know this - that people tortured do not provide any better intel than people who aren't, and often will just say anything - true or not - to get it to stop) -

- then I'm sorry for you. Because I sure as hell can't understand you.

He's probably going through some bizarre form of PTSD. I know guys who have served and have seen action (just to clarify I HAVEN'T) and none of them open their mouths about it at all and I know better than to ask.

That is the coward's point of view. The USA used to stand for the opposite of that.

He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.

Yup.

My ex served, and while I heard funny/quirky stories from time to time there was exactly once he was drunk enough and in the mood to tell some of the darker stories - and even those had a very effing black humor to them (and oh did we feel damn guilty for laughing at a few, but that's why he told 'em), so I knew there were some that were just going to remain untold. That's how it goes.

Then again, people react differently. Maybe someone needs to brag about it to convince themselves it was the right - nay, best - thing to do. I don't pretend to know.
