I guess he isn't getting enough tax breaks yet to have given her a job.

Maybe Romney should pay off the federal debt.

2012-01-14 11:35:07 PM
Why would someone on the campaign trail have $150 in their pocket? And why does Romney think he's going to look like an average Joe for having that much money in their pocket? Who carries that much cash?

2012-01-14 11:39:13 PM
I thought vote-buying was illegal.

Romney carries 10,000 on him at all times to make bets.

Good for him. That helps that one woman, and there is certainly something to be said for individual charity.

Too bad his entire platform would fark her over for the rest of her life.

FTFA: "I was on the highway praying and said, 'God just show me how to get [my] lights on,' and I pulled up to a stop sign and his bus was there," said Williams, who has been unemployed since last October. "And then God said, 'Follow the bus,' and I followed the bus to the airport."

Lady? I think I know why you're unemployed.

You know, buying votes is illegal.

that helps with her unemployment, I'm sure.

Well, I guess that makes up for raiding companies and laying off their workers to the tune of millions of dollars.

As I said in the other thread. It's just so amazingly convenient that he just happened to have $150 in his pocket for this random stranger.

Guess that's the average actor's fee for a quick 30 second gig?

Romney didn't give her $150. Some other dude did.

Ah, it was coordinated largess. Surely not done to make people think he cares about the average American when everything about him proves otherwise.

He's a slime. But he gave her 50-60 bucks according to the article.

Give one unemployed woman some money and you're charitable.
Help all the unemployed people live until they can get a job again and you're a liberal.

Yeah, I see. There was an earlier one that wasn't so precise, or maybe the details just weren't known.

I still don't believe it was random, not when he took this woman over to Haley too.

Or so I've heard.

I really don't see any way to know, and it wouldn't surprise me either way. All politicians love staging shiat. On the other hand, he can certainly afford to toss a few bucks at someone to score some points.

Right now that poor woman is chained in a dog crate in the back of that bus, clad only in a leather version of Romney's Magic Underwear.

Romney enters the bus, says "Now you didn't think that $150 for for FREE, do you?" and unzips his pants...pocket and pulls out a book of campaign jokes he wrote himself that he wants to try out on her.

Romney has a shiatload of money. He probably carries $100 bills around as toilet paper.

Um, most people carry a couple hundred around for shiat like lunch and so on. Basically anyone who doesn't like using a credit card for all the 5 to 10$ shiat will easily have 150$ or so.

Campaign trail makes it even more likely, you have to tip the people associated with travel, bellhops and the guys that park your cars and group dinners and shiat. I guess you could make them go get the manager for a credit card swipe thing every time, but that'd be pretty douchetastic.

Romney is an out-of-touch rich guy, but this isn't one of the things that shows it, really.

You honestly think "most people carry a couple hundred around"?

To a lot of people around the country it is a lot of cash to be carrying around. People use debit cards, or live outside of large cities where they don't use taxis or eat at fancier restaurants. A lot of people are struggling right now economically as well.
Use that money of yours to buy some class.

I'm sorry your credit rating is so bad that you can't own a credit card like normal people.

Hotdog453: You honestly think "most people carry a couple hundred around"?

Initially. Over the course of a couple weeks, it gets spent down. But "100$" and "200$" are default withdrawal buttons on most ATMs for a reason, nobody's going to make a separate run to a bank machine every time they need 20$.

If you use cash, you carry what you need. 20$ a day or so for lunch and dinner, another 5$ for the bus, etc. Plus you probably want another 20-30$ on hand in case of unusual costs. If you make one withdrawal for miscellaneous expenses a week, that's in excess of 150$ pretty easily.

I dunno, look at how much you spend on your credit cared over the course of a week when you're not eating at home, it's probably well in excess of 150$ as well.

If you're running a campaign your incidental expenses are magnified by the fact that you've got a staff and you're not working from your house/hometown. Plus the potential semi-urgent expenses and "in case a card gets declined" stuff are similarly more expensive. Having 150$ to spare in your operation's petty cash seems pretty reasonable, honestly they likely keep much more than that on hand.

I sometimes carry more than that myself--though not often--but 150 is actually quite a lot more cash than most people carry with them at any given time, yes. That remains a fact no matter how much you enjoy waving your dick in the air.

There's something singularly vile about this. Is there not one person on his staff to tell him not to act like he's giving alms to the poor? Sickening.

The last time I carried $100 in my wallet was also the time I blacked out behind a bar and got pick-pocketed.

I know this is Fark and all but if you guys are supposed to be what real liberalism is all about then no thank you.

Way to make sure that no good feed goes unpunished. You have shown yourselves to be some of the most petty hypocritical people I've ever come across. You do Ovama no service by lauding his name when your moral characters are as bad as or worse than the people you vilify.

Again I know this is Fark, but this is also who you really are.

Conservatives believe gov't assistance programs should be replaced by private charity so the few hundred in taxes they pay every year to support the needy can be replaced by the $20 their church spends on their behalf, or the few bucks they might toss to a panhandler. But most of all, they want to have the ability to individually judge every person who receives help - look down their nose and say "you're worthy of my dollar" or "get a job, you filthy hobo" - and they feel the gov't steals that from them.

Hence Santorum's remark a couple weeks ago about not wanting black people to get welfare. I'm guessing he also doesn't want it to go to gays or atheists, just to white heterosexual Christians.

I'm sure Romney feels the same way; he's just too discreet to blurt it out.
