Subby may have a point. I never have heard them.

Nontheless. As the giants of "true' rock music are slowly dying off and being replaced by, how shall I say this....
oh yes, talentless rapohiphopdubstepping hacks, We take off our caps in respect for those true artists that have passed from this world. Sniff.

I worked on a few shows with them a some years ago.
They were fun guys, really good musicians, and it reflected that on stage.

Penn Jillette was the submitter.

He is the only guy arrogant enough to think one else has ever heard of NRBQ.

Great, now its midnight and I'm drunk AND depressed.

As a teen I had an NRBQ album, I thought they were pretty damned good. No one I knew had ever heard of NRBQ, well before I spun it at parties. I introduced many a friend to them.

2012-01-15 12:00:45 AM
Saw 'em in Lynagh's in the 90's. Lots of fun.

No, that was BTO. They were canadas answer to ELP. Their big hit was TCB.

My guess was the drummer from the Alarm, because of the subby who has a hard-on for him.

The only NRBQ song I like is Have You Heard.

2012-01-15 03:38:06 AM
Glad to see the NY Times finally got around to this, considering he died a week ago. Not many bands as much fun as these guys, and Tommy had to be the best example of "perfectly loose" you'd ever find in the drummer category.

::rolls eyes:: how can you not know NRBQ, not a household name, but a decent band, and if you are 40 years old or thereabouts you SHOULD know them (unless you are/were a commercial radio whore)...

/Never heard of these guys either but probably should have

Any band that goes on stage with no set list, ever, is doing it right. It's not just that the audience doesn't know what the band is going to play, the band doesn't either. And NRBQ was like a lot of bands back in the day, their studio stuff is sometimes a but meh, not bad just not stand out stuff either, but there's a reason they were one of the best regarded live bands.
