Uh, yeah, that banner was well over the line. Those threatening this poor girl are some lovely Christians, I tell ya.

Christianity is a religion of love in the same way Islam is a religion of peace.

It was pretty obvious kids in her school would start threatening her. There were adults here on fark saying more or less the same. Not too surprising kids will follow that example.

Well that's completely expected and not at all surprising. This is about Christians being "oppressed" after all, of course they're going to abuse her. These are Christians after all.

My friend had this bumper sticker on his car:


The car was frequently vandalized and the sticker was often peeled off.

Morality doesn't apply if you're Christian because all you have to do is believe and you'll get "forgiven".

Looks to me like they are acting all too 'Christian'. Now as to whether they are following the parts of the bible that are attributed to the teachings of Christ, well maybe not so much.

Why do athiests have to push their secular agenda?

Maybe that Jesus guy they love so much shouldn't have always been speaking about jumping people, droping anchors on them, and killing them. I blame him.

Hard to say since they're acting this way in the name of their God (and Jesus). Look at the comments telling the girl she is the one going to hell. They've twisted up their religion that badly.

Yeah. School claimed a mural that started with Our Father and ended with Amen was secular and not religious. Hence all the Christian butthurt.

Jessica Ahlquist, a student at the school and an atheist, filed a lawsuit against the school and the city of Cranston to remove the banner that has been hanging in the school for almost fifty years, saying that it violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution's First Amendment by promoting one religion - in this case Christianity - over another

I think there might be a bit of 'STFU smart girl' at work there too. kid was pretty bright to catch on the establishment clause and then motivated enough to do something about it.

How on EARTH can they claim something that says, at the top, "SCHOOL PRAYER" is a secular, non-religious banner? The middle text does, admittedly, pray for good things (though growing morally, in this context, is questionable to me) but it's clearly a prayer banner.

For those who were curious, the text is:

To be kind and helpful to our classmates and teachers,

Anyway, judging from how people are acting, nobody was paying much attention to what the banner said, anyway. Least of all the Christians.

Possibly, but it's more likely just the normal kneejerk christian prosecution complex. These are the same people that get upset when someone says Happy holidays instead of Merry Christmas, that seriously think that 'under God' was always in the Pledge of Allegiance, and think that taking 'In God We Trust' off of the currency would bring about the downfall of the human race.

Good point. Though I never understood being so rabid about something like a sports team, either, so I didn't even think of it that way.

I'm one of those people who can't think of anything abstract (like a sports team, school, home town, etc) that I could be remotely passionate about, never mind to the degree that I'd fight someone over it. I always make fun of people who say things like "we won!" regarding a sports team and ask them when they got signed to said team. *shrug*
