List fails with Koch Industries, whose big boss funds the Tea Party, which will happily tear down the government to avoid regulating pollution.

We considered total return to shareholders in comparison to the broader market and other companies in the same sector during the last year.
Return to shareholders shouldn't affect a hate rating.

Compared to other leading social media sites, however, Facebook has the lowest customer satisfaction score from the American Customer Satisfaction Index
And yet people look at me like I have a dick growing out of my forehead when I tell them I don't have a Facebook account. So they can't be that hated.
Where the fark is Haliburton? I guess having a no bid contract to rebuild a country their former CEO destroyed isn't as bad as raising rates on movie rentals. Or are people's memory that short?

i think this data is based off a consumer satisfaction survey of some sort. Halliburton doesn't really sell things to consumers.

Sears is almost certainly doomed and BofA looks likely, so it should make a lot of people (other than their thousands of employees and shareholders) happy when they croak.

Do you ever have direct dealings with Koch Industries? Most likely you have no idea what they even make or produce. So how is it going to show up on a list of hated companies based on consumer experience?
/the Koch brothers also give massive amounts of money to the ACLU and Cancer research

Also I hate Aflac because of their commercials - normally I just ignore commercials, but Aflac has me diving across the room for the mute button.

No Wells Fargo or Bank of America?
That's bullshiat.
An alien race will visit earth on a peace mission, and go to Wells Fargo to open an expense account. A year later the rest of their fleet will turn up an atomize the planet and reduce the inhabitants into digestible proteins.

Reading this thread reminds me of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. We have a list of companies that mostly affect people's everyday lives. When Bank of America is evil that affects the bottom levels of the hierarchy. You could lose your house. When Facebook adds a feature that messes up your social life. Worrying about the politics of rich people, the fate of Iraq, or $10 per capita government waste is a luxury, or not even a luxury but more of abstract pondering on the meaning of life.

We examined each company based on several criteria. We considered total return to shareholders in comparison to the broader market and other companies in the same sector during the last year. We reviewed financial analyst opinions on those companies that are public. We analyzed data from a broad array of sources, including Consumer Reports, JD Power, the MSN/Zogby Poll, ForeSee and the University of Michigan American Customer Satisfaction Index. We also considered negative press based on 24/7 Wall St.'s analysis of media coverage and the Flame Index, which uses a proprietary algorithm to review more than 12,000 websites and ranks companies based on the frequency of negative words.
Finally, we considered the views of taxpayers, Congress and the White House - where applicable
.
That's why this list fails. 'Okay, first we looked at money. Then we looked at what Wall Street thinks of them. Then we looked at industry sources. Then we asked the media. And then, after we did all that, if we had any time left over, we went ahead and asked Congress and perhaps the general public-- not in every instance, but we thought about asking the general public at some point.'

I'm not a fan of Sears and I'd certainly never finance anything with them but I do have to say their service centers have all the little widgets I've ever needed to fix any of my appliances. And it's pretty nice to pick up a $12 thermal fuse the day I need it than pay some repair guy 80 to do it Thursday if he shows up. Another time, the counter guy saved me spending anything by suggesting I doublecheck the connectors on my dishwasher after it quit (turns out the yellow twist fasteners connecting the power cord and unit had simply vibrated loose after 15 years).
Being unable to find a cashier on one day seems a poor reason to dump functional equipment. Perhaps you should speak louder.
