When one ponders the career options available to retired NFL running backs, "Shakespearean Actor" is often left off the list. Unless one is Eddie George..."Unlikely" doesn't even begin to cover this

How is this unlikely? It's fairly common for jocks to major in the Arts in college.

I've yet to find another football player who took up a career in Shakespearean theater.
Do you know of any?

Unlikely? I guess subby missed that episode of Nash Bridges where he very believably played a football player.

Bill Fisher has directed over 50 productions for the California Shakespeare Company. Ta'u Pupu'a, Keith Miller, and Lawrence Harris are big time opera guys. David Lomeli was the star tenor of "Lucia Di Lammermoor,"
So we can drop the thinly-veiled jock prejudice.

He took up a career in Shakespearean theater, assuming you were responding to

"After his unsuccessful attempt of becoming an actor, Autry decided to move back to Evanston.... He now works in the athletic advisor's office"

I believe the author was referring not to the courses taken in college, but to the actual career taken up after the career in football. And it is upon that issue that I concur.
Yes, many are "schooled" in the arts, but few actually go on to make it their career. Fewer, if any, have ever settled into Shakespearean theater.

He also worked as a real estate broker:
Later I asked Autry what advice he has for those pursuing a career in real estate.
"I would tell them to probably choose a different career. (laughs)
No, I actually would tell them you need to be really resilient and you
have to have a great team around you and be patient because the economy
is what the economy is and it's going to take some time for it to come
around, but be patient because once you do, it's a great business to be
in."

Lots of ex-pro football players have become actors. Not all of them were even bad at it. I remember Ed Marinaro as being a better TV actor than he was a running back. Former Rams DE Fred Dryer had a certain charm. Jim Brown, of course. Maybe not brilliant, but I've certainly seen worse. Doing Shakespeare is a little unusual, I guess, but it's still just acting...

Can't find the original article I saw, which was strictly from Foster's point of view, but there's a nice story about the friendship/mentoring relationship between Ray & Arian Foster.
