US Air (smaller and less international for sure, shiattier is subjective) buying American? Where have I heard this before? Oh yeah. Technically K-Mart bought Sears out of bankruptcy. That's worked out well.

So true. I stopped flying US Air about 5 years ago because of a run of horrible experiences. I'll pay extra not to fly that steaming pile of rubbish.

This. US Air not only doesn't give out snacks, for a while they were charging for drinks, even water IIRC. They suck more than pretty much every other airline out there.
They -still- haven't finished the US Air/America West merger from 2005 that was mentioned in TFA. For all intents and purposes they are operating two airlines under one name because they can't get the labor agreements necessary to fully merge. Throwing a third set of employees in there would only make things worse.

My guess is that American will come out of Ch 11 just fine on it's own and won't merge with anyone. At least that is my hope...competition is good, and the airline business is starting to run out of competitors.

Doug Parker used to work at American Airlines...he would like nothing better than to buy them and then personally fire all the aholes he used to work for.

My prediction is that Delta covets the Miami hub and deep South American routes and will take those from American and toss the remains over to US Air.

US Scare is the rudest, least polite bunch of fat guidos ever to make it off welfare and hold a day job. TSA are easier to work with. In fact, I think working for TSA might be a move up from working for US Air.

As a frequent business traveller, US Air is literally the last airline I would use. I'd leave a day early and pay out of pocket before using them.

I have the unfortunate situation of having to fly US Air more often than not. Partly because of my location, and partly because it's the airline of choice for US Government-funded travel. They are by far the worst airline there is. They have lost my luggage a solid 50% of the time I've flown with them, have more delayed flights than any airline I've dealt with, and routinely refuse to even offer drink tickets when their delays trainwreck an itinerary.

Every time I fly them I wonder how they have not gone out of business yet. I've yet to meet someone who enjoys flying US Air.

Do they still own something like 90% of the Pittsburgh airport terminals? That would probably be why then. If you lock out the competition you can do quite well.

I am silver preferred with USAir... and I am based out of Atlanta. They are not nearly as bad as everyone makes them out to be in this thread. I had 30 flights with them last year, and not a single bad experience. I actually prefer them over Delta. I hope they buy American and switch to One World.

Just saying but America West actually bought US Airways and not the other way around. They kept US Airways' name because it had more national brand recognition.

As a Silver in BA (British Airways), I pray to god this does not happen. When I'm in the US, I more often than not get put on American. If that changed to US Airways, I'd honestly consider switching allegiances to Delta/KLM/AirFrance.

/Last US Airways experience was in 2008, and pray it is my last ever.
