A Russian Mars Probe? What's that? A White Russian with Blueberries?

Mmmmm ... a White Russian with Blueberries.

It goes down fast!

Ha! ha!

Really, I'm very sad. A lot of people put their hard work and heart into these things, and it's always a shame to lose a probe.

Russia still has a space program beyond Earth's orbit? Wow.

I for one and painting a bulls-eye on my house and bolting a big magnet on it.

Easier to start over than renovate.

If you want to keep up to date, there is a twitter account that gives updates on the orbit height/velocity every hour and gives maps of the predicted landing zones:

https://twitter.com/#!/PhG_Reentry

Though at this stage the predicted landing zones cover about 60% of the earth.

Don't be too quick to want one of these things. Remember how badly it worked out for Steve Austin.

FTA: "January 13-17, between 51.4 degrees north and 51.4 degrees south....."

Really? That's the best guess you have? Essentially a 4 day window.

Seriously, that's like..... the whole fricking world. Well, most of Canada is safe. And most of Russia too... Wait? wtf????

Let's see, the Earth's total square area:

197,359,320.78684 square miles

Total space occupied by a person, is probably 2 feet, assuming they're not pumpkin shaped.

Odds that it will hit you? fark that math, but no one has yet died from being struck by a piece of human made space debris. In short, the media needs to shut the fark up about shiat falling to earth.

And just think, right now a US probe to Mars is not only on it's way safely, but it's even gonna land like a Warthog drop straight out of HALO.

Ewwwskie! There's lots of water on Mars! Why waste your money? They could save it and just go on Nasa's web site to get all the info the need to know about it.

I give that insane landing sequence a 50/50 chance at succeeding...

Nice tracking map here:

Based on the latest TLEs, which are going to be more and more suspect as this thing hits atmosphere. Really hard to predict these things.
