It does not say that, as a matter of fact.

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

It's two things, really.
One-Stupid blue law. Getting rid of it would further separate church and state.

Two-As a Virginian who doesn't get a lot of time off of work that's not for family crap and who spent a year jobless (well, part time as even McD's wasn't hiring when I got laid off) and the last three without a raise it would provide me with more opportunity to fill my freezer with cheap meat. I've had my .30-30 for years so I don't factor in more than a box of ammo for $17 and my license for $48. That plus some free time, a thermos full of cheap coffee and a few sammiches can provide darn near a year's worth of meat for my family. If I had two more days I could get out in the woods my odds would go up as would the opportunity to get more than one deer for the year and either eat a lot of vennison or donate it to the local food bank for folks who are hard up and wouldn't otherwise have much protein in their diet.

There are a few states that need to end their Sunday ban on EtOH sales.

Minnesota is one of them.

Any Sunday bans on selling tobacco yet? That could be amusing.

"Uh, guess what kids! We're going on a drive to the next state cause, um, it's Sunday!"

I think all the blue laws which is what this is, came from states knowing they could get away with it. The federal laws did not restrict or endorse religion but the states did.

However, historically, I tend to agree with yer assessment of things with some dithers, so I declare peace and love. Okay? Thanks. Next. Or not, B. Yer the decider. Decide now.

spunkymunky: Getting rid of it would further separate church and state.

Yeah no. The co-opting of that phrase by Jefferson, which appears nowhere in the Bill of Rights that he did not write, has been used as the opposite of what Jefferson meant in his response to the Danbury Baptists. i.e., "separate church and state" in his letter was meant as much as a free expression clause guarantee, as some promise of the establishment clause (he wasn't writing to ACLU atheists).

Blue laws would actually allow them to go to church, instead of working at taverns and missing church.

Of course, the Bill of Rights was never intended to apply to the states anyway.

What the hell does Sunday have to do with anything in Genesis 2:2?

And yet you went with my point about blue laws. No hunting on Sundays is for the sole purpose of filling the pews.
Most of the arguments concerning it, at least here in VA, go to 'people need to go to church. God rested on the 7th day so you should go to church so his animals can rest, too.'
It's some farked up shiat.
The folks making an argument for keeping public lands closed to Sunday hunting so that non hunters can enjoy them carries some weight and it's an argument I'm understanding of. If they would allow Sunday hunting just during general firearm season that would be wonderful. It's only two weeks long. Bow gets 6 weeks to itself and muzzeloader gets 3 or 4. Sunday hunting wouldn't be as big of a deal, then.

Gyrfalcon: There are people worried about crap like this?

Yes, shockingly, there are. I dunno, maybe because there are tons of people that like to hunt. And in the Blue Ridge, there are a ton of people that depend on hunting to provide cheap healthy meat for their family.

Try imagining something you liked to do being banned on Sunday. For no reason.

Then there's the economic factor - nobody is going to come to Virginia to hunt when you can't hunt on Sundays. No 3 or 4 day weekends for a quick hunting trip. Hunters spend a LOT of money. It is hurting the economy to have no Sunday hunting.

Finally, its just plain backwards and needs to be eliminated. Who is the government to say I can't do something on my own land on Sunday, but I can do it any other day of the week? Just a load of bullshiat
