So a Russian high muckity-muck is comparing AKs to nukes? Apparently he missed the part where the US basically rebuilt their fire control system so that they(we) could take control of any rogue nukes that fall off the back of the truck. The US knows exactly where their nukes are. And we can probably override their systems if necessary.

I remember then-Representative Hamilton presenting on this to my high school circa 1993.

Of course we all know that the world was perfectly at peace with no beatings, stabbings, etc before guns were invented. It was only after the invention of gunpowder and firearms that this thing now known as "violence" came about.

Kid Mojo: I love how journalism in 2012 involves linking to someone's facebook page.

And why not? It's a direct quote from someone or one of their press handlers. Why wait for someone else to report it when you can get it straight from the source.

Regarding most of the comments made to me regarding my post. You folks are pretty much right. Quite possibly some other weapon would have stepped in as it were for the AK, and certainly the Rwanda genocide was largely carried out with machetes. But to my mind it doesn't offer much of a defense for the AK and the continuing spread of this weapon throughout the world.
On the other hand, something that allows the weak to stand on equal footing with the lawless and brutal to resist being victimized can't be all bad.
That is one thing the AK is not normally used for. Rather the AK is used by groups ranging from small predatory gangs to large organized groups controlling substantial amounts of a country. The weak are exploited either for armed robbery, rape, and mutilation by groups of varying size or literally enslaved to obtain resources such as blood diamonds.

JesseL: bikerbob: Cybernetic: mbillips: Dammit! Any old fart trying to buy $15 worth of firewood in Russia, or any 14-year-old in Africa, can buy select-fire AKMs from the late '50s, but can I get one for love or money to help complete my Soviet small arms collection? Which is kept locked in a safe? Hell no.

You can if you go over there. Getting it home would be another matter.

/ Build your own .....AK's don't require brain surgery. > :)

As long as you don't care about the risk of being sent to PMITA prison.

Even if you DIY, it's still illegal to make a select-fire AK unless you have the appropriate FFL and SOT.

You could always get a Slidefire stock: http://youtu.be/cSgqcGJw0Rg

You'll rarely hear about it when people use evil guns like AK-47s to resist thugs. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Either way though, guns like the AK are machines without moral agency and an inevitable byproduct of chemical and metallurgical knowledge any more advanced than the mid 19th century. That genie isn't going back in the bottle.

God hates violence, period.

God says: "You commit violence against your flesh, you commit violence against God, and God will condemn and destroy you, period."

"Commit violence on this earth, and you commit violence against God, here and now on earth..."

You wanna commit violence against God?

I don't.

I want justice and love forever, period.

That is very very true. I recall reading Afgans during the war with Russia had tiny 'factories' making home built 303 Enfield rifles their preferred weapon at the time. A few people would make Enfields from scratch complete with phony serial numbers. I would not think making an AK 47 would be much more difficult if at all.
[I would not have fired one of those homemade Enfields for love or money.]

groppet: CygnusDarius: GoBadgers: I'm sure all 78 rifles and 153 cartridges will be turned in to the proper authorities.

Which then they'll inform to the papers that all 70 rifles and 50 cartridges have been taken care of by the local police, and passed on to the higher-ops.

And Im sure it will be reported in Pravda how the 45 rifles and 10 cartridges made it safe from the local police to the military police for the "investigation"

And in the evening Russian news they'll report that the 20 rifles have been fully secured and identified.

I am confident he will deal responsibly with all 38 rifles. Yes those 17 rifles will be dealt with the proper way.
