It's hard to tell when they serve it in those red cups, and already have ripped the label off the top of the keg.

If I remember from my college days, kegs at parties were always Beast Light or Natural Lite. But on the other hand, I was wearing an onion on my belt at the time, so things may have changed.

Light? Why do college kids want to drink light beer? I mean, I get that they're looking for the cheapest drunk... we always went with Natty Ice or Icehouse or some such crap.

I was curious what made tresspass a felony in Pennsylvania so I looked up the law. http://law.onecle.com/pennsylvania/crimes-and-offenses/00.035.003.000 . html

Trespass is a felony if it includes entry into an occupied structure. However, it is a summary offense (like a traffic violation) if it involves "threatening or terrorizing the owner or occupant of the premises."

Not sure when you went to school, but i was in college 1999-2003 and we were choking down Natty Lite even then. Sad when a beer is so bad it makes you yearn for PBR or Coors Light.

Meanwhile, it should be a felony to consume Piels Beer.

What can I say? At the time, those two were always the cheapest kegs at the store.

If you do that and they shoot you, you win the lottery, too

Ah, Genny Cream Ale. My dad used to drink that at parties when he was in college. I don't think anyone does anymore.

Gaah! Genesee is what we drank in high school in the 80s when we didn't have the money for anything better. And that was well before American beer started to get good again. Even then it was the worst thing around.

Nope, 2004-2008 at least kegs were always beast light or occasionally miller lite. Did have a party once where we just paid for the keg, we got PBR then. And one time, and this is the sort of thing you tell your grandchildren about, but someone threw a party and had a barrel of leines.

I remember another time a friends older sister threw a party, but the tapper was busted and was only spitting foam. She was a biatch about it and wouldnt give us our money back for our cups, so i left an upper decker and we stole a bottle of liquor from her and went back to the dorms.

As a non-drinker, I get a kick out of beer snob threads. I have no clue what any of you are talking about since I haven't and won't touch the stuff, but it's interesting to see how strident some of you get about what is considered a good beer and what is considered a bad one.

2012-01-13 06:00:28 PM
It's being said that Genny Cream Ale is being marketed as the new hipster beer - blue collar, working man roots, Rochester born... ever since PBR moved their headquarters and got full of being trendy.

I recall it as the only beer that should be required, by law, to have an aspirin under every bottle cap or can tab. Its' laxative qualities should also not be overlooked. It has also functioned as an emergency purgative if ipecac can not be procured.

Nasty stuff, Teddy.

It was that way in the 00s for me, although my friends usually threw down the few extra dollars to get PBR, Labatt, or Honey Brown if we were being all fancy. Quarter keg of Bell's if we were REALLY fancy.

Someone did get held up on my student ghetto street for a case of Natty Ice, though. They didn't take his wallet. Maybe they figured it wasn't worth the trouble.

As for Genny Cream, I had never seen (or at least noticed it) here until recently. It's $1 for a tall boy of it at most places. I usually splurge and get all fancy and put down the extra .50 for a Labatt tall boy.

They sell Genny Cream here in Kentucky and my friend and I are trying to make it the new fad. I'm an ale drinker most of the time but when I go to parties during the summer Genny is my cheap beer of choice. Been trying to get others to drink it, but they say it ain't American beer (because of the name, even though I point out the NY label) and it ain't good like Bud Light. Then I say "Whatever, you European dickhead." That usually gets me strange looks, but they're the farking idiots who still think Bud Light is operated in Missouri, not by Belgains or InBev or whatever.

The Stale, Pale Ale...

I had a friend who was a major can collector, he had several OFs in his stash.

When I was young and foolish but tall enough to byt beer underage at the local store, it was Schmidt's Tiger Head Ale... or if we had an extra buck between us, we splurged on Erlanger.

The new Genesee brewery is also a contract house, so they make a lot of the national microbrews in their kettles for regional distribution in the Northeast. If you're ever had any of the Michael Shea's products, or JW Dundee Honey Brown, that was brewed in Rochester at their High Falls brewery.

They just reintroduced an old brand as well, 12 Horse Ale... and it's in a limited edition of stubby brown bottles. It's not bad... an American style of Pale Ale... lots of hops, lighter body and color, but very drinkable.

Utica Club? Really? My dad won't need a christmas gift next year if I can score a case of that and it tastes anything like he remembers.

That, Iroquois and Manhru were the beers of choice in his day...

Will have to ask at the beer store for some UC!

My dad was a major collector. Bought cases and we could drink as much as we wanted as long as we opened them from the bottom and rinsed them out after. He had 55,000 cans when he passed away.
High school was fun.

I haven't had a Genny screamer in decades! But I fondly remember the hangovers. It was also the easiest green beer to purchase for St. Patricks Day. Also it was infinitely better than Matts, or Utica Club.
