I think the media corps are gonna win this fight.

My senators are an ancient old man who probably has never used the internet, and an insane old man who says things that are not intended to be factual statements. Somehow I doubt they'll be talking much about it.

*checks list*

Yup, they're on it

Jon Kyl and John McCain. I don't even have to click the link to know the answer.

they're pulling every string they've got and pouring a LOT of cash into Congress. not to mention keeping the discussion off the air and out of public view (as much as possible anyways). And for a while at least, this legislation won't actually start affecting most baby boomers and how they use the intertubes. out of sight/out of mind right?

So I think we're going to have to consider the possibility that the bad guys are gonna win.

Bill Nelson (D, FL) - Nope

I'm so done with him. He's useless. Has been for some time. I question whether it's worth keeping the seat.

I can't believe I'm rooting for the media, but I hope they do.

Both my Senators are on there, as expected. You would almost expect you could get Coburn to fight this. He hates all government.

2012-01-13 02:09:55 PM
David Vitter and Mary Landrieu? How much money can I bet on this? Will you accept the deed to my house? How about my liver?

2012-01-13 02:31:55 PM
No, because Senator Wyden has been fighting this crap for a while now.

Merkley has only been there since 2008, and I know he's not on there either.

2012-01-13 02:32:49 PM
I can see why they wouldn't want to talk about her. Her ass is nice enough, but it ain't that special.

You can bet...the ones who support Free Trade/Free Trade w Communist China...WTO...NAFTA...UN...etc...are the same ones who will refuse to meet w privacy advocates in regard to PIPA

Also of note is how PIPA has managed to avoid the small amount of media scrutiny that SOPA has generated.

Kay Hagan, I'm shocked. Still better than Elizabeth Dole, but the gap keeps on shrinking.

I'll take that bet.

That said, Senators are too busy to schedule an immediate meeting with a group they've never heard of? I'm surprised they managed to schedule 40 meetings.

There are many liberal heroes on that list. Let's see how they'll defend them this time. The lib defense of Franken when they found out he was a co-sponsor of the bill was pretty sad....

The Tea Party is against both bills.

Uh... exactly who defended Franken? Everyone was basically "No, not you. Franken."

2012-01-13 02:57:03 PM
However, Franken is not on the list. A small sign, I guess.

Al is supposed to be the smart one. I say that in every email I send.
"Al, you are supposed to the be the smart one. Here's a link to another Tech Dirt article. Be the smart one."

I'm sure the flattery helps.

He's also got money from show business and probably, just a guess on how old he is, may not understand the intertubes as well as he should.

2012-01-13 03:17:06 PM
What should really happen is we should be calling the other 40 senators and asking them to fillibuster it. That would actually make sense to do, this isn't going to get anybody anywhere.

It's not their fault those cocktards in congress thing that censoring all the things will stop piracy.

No. All these bills do is censor legit websites while piracy continues in backdoor channels.

Most of the torrenting sites are hosted in Europe and there are easy ways around any kind of firewall put up. This is about creating a monopoly, rent seeking and not understanding how the internet works. The torrenting concerns come after that, but they're more of a way to demonize the other side. The big media companies want to get more money for doing less work and don't want any competition. They bribe the hell out of our legislature and they get their way because people don't understand what is going on.

My Representative was one of the sponsors for the house bill. Oh how I wish he could get voted out but his best challenger got 30% of the votes and has been in office about as long as I've been alive.

Go volunteer for his challenger's campaign right now, then convince them to use this as a campaign tool. There is nothing stopping you from at least trying.

Mine, Bob Casey (D-PA) is on the list. He was also on the NDAA list. He has definitely lost my vote. I wrote him for both and of course all I get back are pre-written responses. The fact that these Senators are unwilling to send a single staffer to meet with a group that represents the rest of us instead of the media conglomerates tells you all you need to know.

Fark em.

Doesn't change the fact that they should be doing the right thing, rather than the "safe" or "profitable" thing.

But that's CA for you, liberal until there's money or civil rights involved.

[csb] When I tried to call Kay Hagen, Senator from NC and one of those who will not meet with us peons, I got her answering service. They gave me an emergency phone number to call to leave a message. Turned out to be a printing service in Georgia. The owner said that folks have been trying to reach Hagen on that number since this morning. [/csb]

/Nice trick, huh?
//And my vote for her just vanished!

Boxer and Feinstein need to go, enough of this bowing down to media, this is typical government bought and paid for. When it all goes to crap and all the digital businesses of the media companies suck wind, they will wonder why.
