I'd like to know the justification for harboring and protecting truly horrible criminals. Maybe they think they can somehow keep the world from knowing. Unfortunately for them, rape and sexual abuse victims tend to only be able to stay quiet SO long before they have to say something because it eats away at them and fundamentally changes them as people to go through something like that more often than not.

I don't understand how any parents allow their children to be around priests unsupervised. Not that I am blaming the parents -- all these rapist pedophile priests are to blame for their inability to behave like decent human beings. So my original point stands.

That's where I come back to the idea of the vow of chastity being problematic. It's too close to prison, where you'll also see incidences of men who have never had so much as a homosexual thought engage in gay sex if incarcerated long enough.

I think, in addition to missing sex, they're missing companionship that we seek in a spouse. I love seeing my husband at night after work, having dinner, cuddling on the couch, falling asleep together, etc. He's my partner and confidant and the person I am closest to in the world. They have none of that. I am sure they have friends, but it's not the same. I have to imagine it's very isolating, and possibly even maddening, and that's why they go and do these crazy things.

I hate making the comparison to prison, but it is a group of men living in the same house (close quarters), eating together, and spending little time outside of the company of each other.

What I DON'T get, though, is why the priests -- who are free to leave, have cars, etc, don't break their vow of chastity with a consenting adult instead of breaking it AND committing a criminal act. How did that somehow become more acceptable? I can't wrap my brain around that.
