Loving all these Hockey threads!

Love to see the Bruins leapfrog the Rangers for first place in the conference on Saturday.

Bruins will have to handle the 'Canes and Toronto will have to beat NY for that to happen, though.

Yea and the Leafs will be tied after the Sabers tonight.

Also what is up with the Sens this year? I was told they were supposed to suck as bad as last year...

sno man: Also what is up with the Sens this year? I was told they were supposed to suck as bad as last year...

Well, that was the conventional wisdom, right?

Teams still have to play the games, though.

Even though they're in the same division as the Bruins, I'm kind of happy Ottawa is doing better than everyone expected them to do. Good start on the rebuild, at any rate.

Thank you, Detroit, for letting this guy go. Dat Stache knows what he's doing.

This Sens team is more fun to watch in any given game than any team we've had while I've been watching. There have been teams with more talent, but none with the kind of work ethic and compete level like this one, and I put that entirely on MacLean and his staff.

I've wondered why the Sens and Bruins have like zero rivalry, they practically send each other Christmas cards... very odd for divisional opponents.

Back on topic, I'm loving this season but I'm still waiting for the sky to fall for the Sens. The effort level is through the roof compared to the past couple of seasons and it makes for some interesting hockey.

Could be the Chiarelli/Chara (and now Kelly) connections; Boston's got some key people who were really well regarded when they were in Ottawa. That, and we've never met in the playoffs and Thomas owns our souls.

But regarding the Sens, I don't think they'll suffer the kind of collapse where they just stop winning games.. They're clearly more prepared for games than they've ever been, playing a good system for the kind of players they've got, etc. Like any team though, injuries to the wrong people will hurt big time.

Yeah, it's great having more than one hockey thread per week. I think that now that the admins have seen people will comment on them they'll start having more.

That being said, the Oilers are doing quite well this season.

Also, how come the Canucks have played five more games than the Bruins, that just seem crazy to me.

Beats me... Bruins have got games in hand on most of the teams in their division, too, I think. (Could be wrong. Haven't checked recently)

They had a pretty light schedule at the start of the season, too.

There are many things that are contributing to the Senators success this year. The Paulrus, Karlsson, Speeza, Michalek are the most notable. Alfie is still Alfie. Our rookies are still carrying the momentum from the Bingo Calder Cup win - Cowan, Greening, Smith, Condra, Daugavins. Some vets who had bad years prior are back to form - Gonchar, Kuba, Neil, Foligno. Our goaltending is quickly becoming more reliable. Turris has been an excellent addition, even if the price was high. We have depth and a load of excellent prospects in waiting.

Ultimately, this is all the engineering of Bryan Murray. He didn't half ass the rebuild. His drafting is stellar. Still some work to do.

I don't expect it to carry on though. Our wins are too often come from behind, we tend to stink it up for the first half of the game. Our bottom D are suspect. Our backup goalie is a joke. The bubble will burst at some point. But even when it does burst, the Senators will still be fun to watch, and that's all I really care about.

And blanking the Rangers felt good. Really good.

Big game for the Hawks tomorrow at the Joe. Can't say I've minded the resurgence of the Bolland line in the last couple of weeks, but I have a feeling Jonny Toews is going to have to put the team on his back if they're going to win at Detroit.

Speaking of, Toews has gotten rather Datsyuk-ian at taking pucks away this year, particularly on the boards. Not going to win the Hart, but he'll be in the conversation.

Guh.. don't remind me about Thomas, it is just ugly when they play him. They did play pretty well for 40 minutes in their games against the B's this year, just fell apart in the 3rd.

Maybe I used the wrong word, but coming down to earth a bit more would be accurate. The big thing is they never give up when they are down and don't let multi-game losses get to them.

Also if Anderson gets injured this season is done, Auld is awful.

Anyways, here's to some sweet sweet payback on Saturday for the Habs.

Indeed, it is...

17 games in March with 3 back-to-backs

Considering that playoff run included a ridiculous come-from-behind series, a sweep series and lots of dramatic overtime wins, that momentum had better last a whole year.

I'm thrilled Marchand is going to still be out. Maybe the Canes will feel comfortable letting Skinner play, since they won't have Private Cheapshot head hunting him in the crease.

The Sens are really impressing me, for multiple reasons.

The depth is terrific - everyone is putting up numbers, Neil and Konopka seem to actually be serving their purposes, and Anderson is much better than I originally gave him credit for. He's still really inconsistent at times, but he's proving to be solidly competent.

If they get the same Anderson come playoff time that singlehandedly made the Avs-Sharks series a couple years ago interesting, they may go a ways. That Avs team was way thinner than this "surprise" Sens team.

So according to Krejci, he's happy the Bruins all jumped Subban last night because "When one of us goes down the rest of us come in there and help."

But hey, when the Canucks jump someone who cheapshots one of their top liners they're cowards who won't fight one on one. Good to know where that line is.

I like that whether they're losing or winning, they always put in a solid 60 minute effort.

Work ethic is really the corner stone of turning a team around.

Oh I figured, but it was worth reinforcing that PK turtled in front of God and everyone to the smallest player on the ice.

At least I think Ference is, with Cammalleri having been pulled by that point and Gionta out injured. Unless there's other guys on Les Midgetants I'm forgetting.

No, just calling out ridiculous platitudes handed to Vancouver with a healthy dose of obvious sarcasm.

Saying the Canucks are in 1st place when 4 of the next 5 teams below them have at least 3 games in hand is kind of a joke. In points/game, Vancouver is in 4th place. (Or 5th, I dunno. I did the math but didn't write anything down).

Was all over the HFs for a week. Something also about how they'll have the Big House and Co' Park represented. To which I say, have the Wings play at the latter as well so that Bruins or Sharks fans don't feel snubbed. Seriously, Sharks fans have been whargarbling up a storm about it. But it'll probably only be for the GLI. Dammit.

I went to the Cold War a few years back at MSU - it was beyond fun. I might even fly back to Detroit if the WC makes it to the Big House. 115,000 fans screaming in the cold? That sounds epic. The Big House is the 3rd largest stadium in the world for capacity. The other two are in Best Korea and India so I'm guessing hockey won't be played in either. Although I've heard dear leader is an amazing hockey player.
