I mean, just look at them. These aren't the dreaded scourge of the seven seas like the Barbary Corsairs or Blackbeard fame. These are more like a bunch of rednecks in a leaky motorboat and a handful of weapons.

Well, I for one can endorse having the human decency to over power then, detain them, and to hang them from a yardarm or have them walk the plank. Think of the pay-per-view potential: Action footage of capture, reality show trials, and the execution.
Possible title of the show: Can you swim 500 miles?

Does look like a cargo ship (I guess it basically is one in the service of the Spanish Navy) so the pirates' decision makes a little more sense.

It must have looked like a freighter to them, then. Hmm. Pirates attacked a US Navy transport 10 or 12 years ago, with the same result.

It might be time for the Armed Merchant Cruiser to come back in style.
