Huh... Strawberries and pineapples already taste almost the same (source). So much so, in fact, that you can interchange them at will in recipes.

Will they be as big as apples?

Pretty sure I could tell the difference between a pineapple upside down cake and a strawberry upside down cake. Or a Pineapple parfait.

I think the reason the would be functionally interchangeable in recipes wouldn't be the flavor so much as they have a similar water content and texture.

The author of the book linked says it's due to the taste. In fact, that's the reason strawberries and pineapple cubes are seen in the same glass on the cover of the French version of the book.

The only thing that will save us is Red Vines, raw cow milk, and massive doses of LSD...

I gotta say, I am pretty sure I can taste the difference between strawberries and pineapple, since pineapple makes me want to barf. This makes me want to read that book, though, to learn more!

/add it to the Amazon list...

I assume I'm missing some joke. What's the "mainstream" part a reference to?
