Goes to show that if you want to be the President, you've got to have money.

The Lincoln check is significant because it was signed one day before he was shot. It is a $800 draft written to "self", and drawn on the First National Bank of WAshington, D.C.

Those overdraft fees will kill you.

How long until someone in Congress proposes cashing them to reduce the debt?

To get this off on the right note, is the check Obama wrote to Solyndra included in the display?

The article says Lincolns check was signed one day before he was shot...but if you look close, the info card in the photo says it was two days....Great reporting

When my grandmother was going, I'd write checks and she would later sign them. It's not a huge stretch to say the same would happen with someone as busy as Lincoln.

According to some random calculator I found:

What cost $800 in 1865 would cost $11259.68 in 2010.

What the fark did Lincoln need that much money for? that was a crap ton of money back then.

The card says assassinated. He was shot on April 14th but didn't die until April 15th. The reporting was "technically" correct.

/still lousy reporting
//and picture taking.

She reveals that the total value of Huntington's entire 70 check collection is about $75,000.

A collection of autographs of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln*, plus dozens of others of similar fame? That seems really low.

Aw, that's nothing! Our bank has checks signed by Michael Rodent, Donald Canard, Bill Shakespeare (pronounced: sha kess per ray), and most of the residents of a local cemetery!

Also found was a hand-written note:

If you don't want to die, bring $12,000 to the theater tomorrow night. I'm going to count it before I leave, so don't you dare try to cheat me or it'll be the last time you do.

Not to mention. $11K in today's money is "Drug Money" by default until you prove otherwise.
Argument, take $11K, walk up to a cop and ask.

I wanna see the blowup of Washington's check to see if he signed it "Wafhington."
