With Wilpon in control where do the Mets finish this year? Behind Washington? Just asking for honest opinions.

Better question.

I think it depends on how the whole Prince Fielder thing shakes out, but the NL East is sure to be.. something this year.

The Phillies are still the Phillies (though it remains to be seen if Ryan Howard ever fully recovers from the 'sploded knee), the Braves still inexplicably manage to always be in the mix, the Miami Technicolor Dreamcoat Marlins suddenly think they're the Yankees and if the Nationals DO land Fielder, well, all bets are off in that division.

Well, when I go to St Lucie Mets games this year, I know I'm probably seeing a better product than the one in Flushing.

Why can't some crazed Mets fan just take out every Wilpon??

I love being a Mets fan because I no longer give a fark. It is relaxing and a stark contrast from the 474748 strokes I have during hockey and football seasons.

The Braves are anything but inexplicable, their lineup and bullpen are neck-and-neck with Philly for the best in the NL. You can have the shiatty batting if you have the 2nd deepest rotation followed by the best setup-closer combo of the year (Venters/Kimbrel). If Beachy continues to improve and Jurrjens and Hanson stay healthy, they are easily the match for Philly. Difficulty: Dan Hudson; How many more seasons are left in that arm, and can Mike Minor ever develop enough to be a 5th man in the rotation? I'm rooting for them as a Sox fan, just because watching pitchers is about 90% of the game for me, and the Braves have some of the best young talent.

As a Phillies fan, I'm okay with this. I can handle a decade of fun times to make up for the mid to late 90s and early 00s.

The braves are always in it because of their farm system providing young pitching, now of they can just learn go to hit the damn ball.

Honestly....as an Expo fan, i should leave these Mets threads alone.
but
I think they are trying to make a 1969 team again with ed kranepool, felix milan and bud harrelson like players.
not much money, but sound players with winning attitudes.

Not yet. I am surprised they haven't moved to some other town willing to build them a new state-of-the-art Spring Training complex, like many of the teams down here seem to do lately.

Yeah, they did.

They got rid of the GCL Mets, meaning no rookie-level SLM. The Class-A St. Lucie Mets are still here, though. From what I understood, they played the GCL games the afternoon before the SLM played. I've never seen a GCL game, though. Guess I never will - in PSL, at least.

deadsanta: The Braves are anything but inexplicable,

Oh I think their total implosion last year was truly remarkable. It was the stuff of stories, and it would have gotten all the attention but for those pesky Red Sox going through virtually the identical implosion.

/see, its cause no one cares about Atlanta
//Not even Atlantans.

Not for nothin', but Ken Boswell was the Mets' 2nd baseman in 1969. Felix Millan was in Atlanta, and didn't arrive in Flushing until the Mets traded for him in 1972.

maybe i was thinking of 1973..but the point is to save cash and get a solid team out there.

Point taken, but it's rough saving cash when you're doing financially insane transactions like paying Bobby Bonilla until 2035, and the average salary for their underperforming group of mopes is $4.4M.

The Mets' outlook for 2012 is bleak. But there are two slight upsides:

1) Their lineup is pretty solid. Wright and Davis will make a good middle of the lineup pair. Lucas Duda showed he can hit, and even Jason Bay turned it around at the end of last year. Plus, their scrubs aren't awful hitters. Justin Turner's alright, and hits in the clutch (if such a thing exists.) Josh Thole gets on base. Ruben Tejada didn't look terrible. The lineup doesn't really have any holes. And the more at bats Daniel Murphy gets, the better. At least til he blows his knee out a third time.

2) They weren't THAT bad last year. Losing Reyes obviously hurts. Beltran and K-Rod, too. But they were 77-85 last year. That's bad, but it's not hilariously godawful. They led the NL East in runs last year, and should have an above average offense this year.

Their pitching sucks. If Pelfrey has a bounceback year and Johan Santana comes back strong, their rotation will only be bad. Bullpen has new arms. One of them might be good!

/that's Ramon Ramirez, if anyone's wondering.

I'm a Yankees fan. The boyfriend is a Mess fan. It's good-natured, more so than it would be if he were a Red Sox fan or something, but I do feel bad for him. Mostly.
