I feel like I'm in the Minority Report and that's really awesome.

bimbo.

But a very nice window otherwise.

Can you watch porn on it?

/what about all the farkin remotes we all have?

2012-01-13 09:32:13 AM
On the one hand, it's neat. On the other hand, do we really want to have window blinds that stop working when the power goes out?

2012-01-13 10:29:19 AM
If I left the basement, that would be an improvement.

No, she's saying she's about to kill someone.

It's a feature: "In the event of power disruption, the Samsung Smart Window automatically switches to transparent mode to allow external light in, eliminating the need for flashlights and candles should the outage occur during daylight."

Yeah, and what happens if power goes out and you're one of those people who walks around the house in boxers?

Then my neighbors will be pleased that, even with chaos and the dystopian failure of public infrastructure, my wang remains an island of stability.

Well, more of a peninsula, really.

Hmm, I wonder what people on the other side of the window see...

I thought this was going to be a monitor with full live-feed from some camera so it looked like a window, that you could hang on the wall of your windowless cement-walled cell of an office.

/goddammit I want a window

I like windowless offices. Less chance of someone targeting you through the window. Also, I don't like being in direct sunlight.

I thought it was a one-way window, where you can see out but can't see in?

Except she clearly says that it's one-way only. You can't see inside.

I was thinking more that window/wall in Arnold's apartment in Total Recall, but that is still pretty friggin' cool.

Am I the only person that does not think it looks terribly useful in that context?

The vending machine one makes sense ...but a window in your house ...WHY???? Probably because its naturally back lit.

A glass coffee table? sure! A window in your house... that's just silly.

2012-01-13 01:34:51 PM
OH!! and the digital blinds thing...

That's the farking dumbest thing I have ever heard. I got a better idea ...BLINDS!!

Not really silly. In a lot of kitchens the window is the largest area where a screen can be put. Using the window that way instead of a small pad device elsewhere is genius.

2012-01-13 01:38:05 PM
It's an interesting device, but how many of you have a window in the kitchen that isn't mounted over a sink and far from your fingers?

I wonder if the huge touchscreen version of this that sits on a wall, or the smaller one that can mount on a cabinet door or refrigerator might be more useful to more people.

Perhaps though, someone can design a kitchen around it.

RexTalionis: Yeah, and what happens if power goes out and you're one of those people who walks around the house in boxers?

I anticipate that, in the future, specialized garments will be created which provide supplemental coverage. It will resemble your boxers, although lacking the Hello Kitty imagery, and will have much longer leg-coverings, perhaps even extending to the ankles. These can be put on in the event of power loss.

Although couple this with controls from a Microsoft kinect and it might work.

Actually, I want digital blinds for the bedroom. That way, they can be controlled on a timer and I can have the place pitch black while I'm sleeping, and open to daylight when the alarm goes off. So there.

Looks great. But I'm guessing the cost is going to be pretty high. The last thing I want is a really expensive glass pane that can easily be shattered by an errant baseball or bird.

Yeah because getting the time and news off my kitchen window is so common place in the second and third world. But blinds? Now your just spoiled.

For all those asking if others can see in, watch the video again. Listen very carefully.

I think it's a neat concept. Practical? Not really.

A window, that thing in your house that birds crash into, rain, snow and sleet batter against, that people throw rocks through, Yes there. that's where I'm putting a really expensive item. now thieves don't even have to enter your home, just cut the caulking and remove.

That would be nice. At the same time, I want speakers placed inside my walls that will acoustically cancel the outside noise. Except for birds and crickets.

It's already been answered a couple times up-thread, but...

Is it because I get to see the same stories as you but have an extra $60 at the end of the year?

I'd also like to have it installed as an overlay to a mirror so that I can read the news in the bathroom while I'm brushing my teeth. Because fark you, teeth, you're boring.
