This is not normal 10-drink behavior. This is normal 18-drink behavior. Lightweight.

The museum likely will have to raise money from outside sources to repair the exhibits, he said.

I can see it from ten in an hour. Most people have already been at it for a while to hit a full drink every 6 minutes.

Yeah, that's why they have no money.

If I suddenly had a $7,000 bill for something while I was in university I would have just shrugged and asked them if they wanted my left or right kidney.

He should have to pay for the damages, but chances are the museum wouldn't see the money for a long time.

Most museum artifacts are factory-produced replicas, just in case they get damaged or vandalized

That is not true, unless you are referring to just natural history artifacts, in which case that would again be limited to about 25% of fossils on display.

fark this kid. I hate, hate, hate idiots who act like complete, senseless neanderthals the second they down some alcohol.

Either you can act like a reasonable human being while drunk or you can't, and if you are the latter, then don't get drunk. "But I was drunk!" is a bullshiat excuse that irresponsible morons cower behind instead of owning up to their own behavior.

They should expel him and not let him back until he's gotten a wage slave job and paid for his stupid actions. And if he doesn't do that double-time, then they should sue the shiat out of him.

The total damage, which Gnidovec estimated at $5,000 to $7,000, was to reproductions and not actual bones and fossils. He said they're replaceable, even though a company that made one of them is no longer in business.

"It's going to take a lot of time and money to do that," Gnidovec said.

The museum likely will have to raise money from outside sources to repair the exhibits, he said.

Yeah, fark that.

Since these were reproductions, here's an idea: make the punk recreate the damaged pieces himself. If it takes him 1000 hours, so be it. He will have learned a lesson and perhaps some skills in the process.

Many things on display are indeed replicas, however 95% of things in the collection of a museum are original materials. There are numerous reasons why replicas may be on display, including:

Original fossil is too fragile for display/mounting
Original fossil has too much research value, and is kept in collections for researchers to access
Original fossils are spendy, and the extra armature to mount them is expensive
Original fossils are much more rare, and cast replicas are easier to acquire.

I just finished mounting an original Platecarpus skull. There is a heck of a lot of work that goes into mounting original fossils. Look at the pic before I painted the restoration of the almost finished skull below.

Replicas at least can be replaced. And using the term "factory" is a bit misleading. Nothing factory-like about it.

Trance750: Must be nice to never made any kind of mistakes or questionable judgement.

I didn't say that. I said I didn't do anything of noteworthy stupidity. Everyone makes bad decisions or acts irresponsibly sometimes, especially when they're younger.

Not everyone, say, breaks into a museum and damages a bunch of fossils. Or goes out driving while drunk and kills someone. Or tears down all the light fixtures in a hotel. Or any of the other monumentally stupid, destructive, and completely pointless things that retards like this kid do.

There are things that I can chalk up to being young and inexperienced, but there are also activities that no reasonable human being could decide to engage in without being a complete idiot. A 12-year-old could tell you that breaking into a museum to play with bones is a bad idea. They might still want to do it, but they know full well that it is something you don't do.

Hopefully this kid in the article will grow out of his stupidity, but I don't cut him any slack for being young and drunk.

Just because you are a farkup when you drink does not mean that the rest of the world farks up when drinking. You, like the idiot from TFA, have a problem.

It all depends on the museum, the items (and their status/location), and the nature of the damage.

Many times state university-run museums are self-insured. I still don't see why the kid isn't financially responsible. Hell, if the parking department can keep you from graduating with fines...

It could be that the collections manager was freaking out and didn't stop to think about that when he talked to the reporter.
