I've said before, I'll say it again: Never trust a group with "Family" in their name (or their members). They are guaranteed homophobes, bigots, misogynists, and want nothing more than an American Theo-Fascist state that's
really
based on the Bible.

Born-again Evangelicals who insist that every man, woman and child in the U.S. alive adhere to THEIR principles and theirs alone are nothing short of the American Taliban. And they won't stop until they achieve theocratic Christian sharia law.

School education: teaching tolerance and informing people that there are alternative lifestyles that exist in the world, and that we can exist alongside them.
Christian groups: breeding intolerance and preaching an adherence to their own idea of how people should co-exist on this planet.

FFA's article about why the CAIR guy is evil.
(new window)
Their 990 is on Guidestar, and David Caton makes $55k/yr for doing this stuff. Revenue has been dropping though, and he's got a nice house he wants to keep so he has to find some brand recognition to bring in new donors.

"The students are curious. They had heard so much negativity about Islam," Shibly says. "We tell them Islam condemns terrorism, that there's no room for terrorist in Islam... they asked good questions, hard questions, tough questions. We had a good dialogue and conversation."...
Caton says the school district is walking a fine legal line. He says, "If the school district allows Islam to be taught in the schools they are obligated under the law to all faiths to present equal time on their faiths."
Sounds like a fine education to me. I am sure farkers would have

I wouldn't have a problem if all religions came in to answer questions. Philosophy is philosophy. Atheism, Buddhism, Satanism, Rastafarian, Flying Spaghetti Monster all of it. As long as it's a question an answer type thing. No farking preaching.

I bet they wouldn't care if a Christian Minister came to the class - I wouldn't. If a local Muslim expresses the bigotry that the FFA guy did, I guarantee he'd get ripped by FARK, too
The article implies that a Christian and Jew were invited. But they aren't gonna get a shiatstorm of letters from angry parents.

Actually, and I am speaking as an atheist here, I think it would be a very good idea to have a historical perspective taught about Christianity. I know any number of Jesuits who taught some very clear, concise classes about the origins of the religion. It would, however, elicit the same kind of frothing asshattedness as it would be vastly different than the garbled crap spewing of out the mouth of the average mouth breathing Fundie.
One of the best tools for creating a freethinker is the history of religion.

As long as it was nothing more than a 'good dialogue and conversation' as this was... but, knowing xians all my life has taught me one thing: they can't stick to that and instead go into mini-sermons on why anything other than their cult's teachings are wrong and you are doomed to hell. So as long as it's nothing more than open and honest questions about their belief (or any religions beliefs), I have no problem with it.

Why does Bevets hate a man of God? American schools already allow religious groups; pre-school prayer meetings; and in some states prayers before football games.
It is obvious that Bevets is the voice of the devil; the one that I've heard about from the Catholic Church's chief excorsist.

Other religions were discussed and, I'm assuming, spoken about by outside representatives, as well. Separation of church and state is about making sure the state favors no religion over another.

Exactly.
Pretty much any religion can be taught in public school as long as it's from a historical or cultural perspective rather then a spiritual one. In fact I'd go as far as to say that any school curriculum that
doesn't
include studying various religions from historical or cultural perspectives is a very, very bad curriculum.
In this case a Muslim leader was invited to speak in order to simply dispense first-hand information about Islam. This is acceptable as he isn't preaching to the class.
At any rate, the group complaining at is the exact same group that got Lowes to cancel their advertising on All American Muslim. I wonder how long it will take them to realize that for every "victory" they achieve, it just causes a far larger backlash that makes their side look silly?

And if Muslim's were a major Republican voting block, liberals would be right there with the Christian Family Association, except the diatribes would be a hundred fold more hate filled.
World wide it is without question that Christianity is repugnant.
World wide it is without question that Islam is undeniably worse and we can only dream of the day when we can say they aren't any worse than the Christians.
