Welcome to Florida Steve and thank you.

2003-10-16 08:44:38 AM
Gov. Jeb Bush said Wednesday an offer of asylum for Steve Bartman might be a good idea, and an oceanfront retreat in Pompano Beach is offering him a free three-month stay, should he deem it necessary to get out of Chicago until the hubbub over the pop-up cools down.

Bartman would also receive free airfare and other perks, all provided by the Holiday Inn Oceanside Pompano Beach.

Got to love this country kids.
Where else does it pay to be a fark-up?

2003-10-16 08:47:21 AM
Good to know we don't have any other important issues
for Gov Bush to handle.

2003-10-16 08:59:54 AM
If I were Bartman, I'd take Jeb up on his offer. He's probably not going to be able to step foot outside without risking an arse kicking for at least three months.

2003-10-16 09:09:14 AM
It was God's will the Cubs lose and Bartman was His instrument.

2003-10-16 10:10:18 AM
Chicago shouldn't be too upset, they still have the Bears

not easily said with a straight face

2003-10-16 10:34:46 AM
Isn't about time people let up on this guy? Sure he prevented what could've been one out, but let's face it: the Cubs are the ones who farked it up from there. (And this is coming from a Cubs fan.) Had they played better, they could've recovered the game from there.

Besides, the fan just caught a foul ball; he's not one of those idiots who sit along the outer wall and catch a fair-play ball to make it a homer. His actions only led to an additional strike, instead of an out, for the batter. Hell, the Cubs wouldn't have expected much more than a strike from that play in most circumstances anyway.

Besides, it's foolish to say that the Cubs would've won the game and series had the fan not caught that ball. Truth is, we don't know. He made it minisculy harder for the Cubs to do so, but they could've picked up from there.

Steve Bartman didn't lose it for the Cubs; the Cubs lost it for the Cubs. Give this guy a break and get on with your lives.

2003-10-16 10:41:16 AM
I agree. The asshats in Chicago need to settle the fark down. This guy contributes to society by teaching kids to play ball. Not the big fat ass drunks throwing beer at the dude. The cubs lost it, cuz they suck. Even Kerry Woods says he choked. So...fark the cubbies...The Goat RULES!!!!!

2003-10-16 11:46:06 AM
I would take them up on the offer. If it was me I would milk the thing for all that it is worth.

???

Didn't this already hit the main page once?

2003-10-16 12:19:31 PM
Hmmm....3 months in Florida during the winter or 3 months in Chicago during the winter?

2003-10-16 01:07:35 PM
amazing how you can become famous for doing stupid shiat.... Jackass beat me to it...

2003-10-16 01:40:50 PM
The Cubs folded like a cheap suit. That's why they lost.

Anyone that says otherwise doesn't know anything about Baseball.

2003-10-16 01:52:49 PM
If anyone paid attention to the replays it's obvious that more than one fan tried to catch the foul ball. Bartman did not "reach out" to catch the ball, he reached up. The ball was in the seats no matter how close to the line. Bartman and others were in their rights to go for the ball. If he had reached over the wall that's another story. And yes he should have been paying more attention because it is an out if the player catches the foul even in the stands ( though a player can't leap into the stands over the wall and run up a few stairs ). We've already seen a few plays in these playoffs where players flopped into the stands and made a great grab. Most people got out of the way. Bartman didn't. Stupid, yes, but not illegal or wrong and not uncommon. He had plenty of other folks around him trying to do the same thing.

I've lost a lot of respect for Cubs fans and their media. It was completely irresponsible for the Chicago media to reveal the guy's name and work place. The Cubs fans are so blatantly programmed to blame anything other than their beloved Cubs's lousy play and coach Baker's bizarre pitching decisions it's pathetic. Suck it up. I didn't freak out and blame everyone and everything but the Giants and A's when those two teams stunk up the field. It was clear the players didn't step up and do what they're supposed to do. I'm not going around saying it's the fans fault or the curse of the oyster or the plague of the garlic fries that caused my two favorite teams to choke like someone at a Hometown Buffet. No, it was bad play and strange coaching. Simple. I suck it up and wait until next year while cheering on my favorite hockey team, the San Jose Sharks, and my faltering football teams, the Raiders and 49ers. Things happen in sports. There's no need to get psychotic and act like drunken thugs. Leave that job to the Yankees players.

* end sports rant *

Dead in a snowbank with a baseball up his ass by Christmas.

2003-10-16 02:48:02 PM
sure, lets say his name on the internet over and over again. Whoever submitted this link with the dudes name in the title is an asshat for further cementing this guys name in our collective memory. Any other fan would have done the same thing with a foul ball about to drop in hios lap.EPlus this is yesterdays news anyway.

2003-10-16 02:50:23 PM
Holiday Inn Oceanside is a decent hotel on the beach. It is not, however, a resort.

"Steve Bartman thrown out of resort after he keeps interfering in volleyball tournament; refuses to stop coming out of spectator stands to spike the ball"

2003-10-16 02:53:41 PM
I'm sick of these so called cubs fans thrashing this guy. Thi isn't what the cubs all about. We lose and we recover. The Cubs choked, simple as that. They've done it before and they'll do it again but as the saying goes "there's always next year." sure I can understand being aggrivated at the guy at first, I was too. But thrashing his car and threats of physical violence are way too much. Where's the talk of the error made by rodriguez or the shut out from Sunday (the real turning point of the series). Give the guy a break, and Steve, I hope you enjoy your vacation. If I were you I'd spend it looking for a home down there because even if some moron doesn't hurt you, you'll have a difficult life in Chicago cause of the few morons out there.

2003-10-16 02:56:07 PM
CHOKE.

Steve, have fun in florida!

2003-10-16 02:58:31 PM
Wow, he was offered 3 months twice, by two different Florida governers, called Jeb Bush. Also, an ancient purple frog was found again.

2003-10-16 03:04:13 PM
I'm a diehard Cubs fan but blaming this guy is lame. The truth is the Cubs were going to lose no matter what happened. Why??? because that's what they do. I can accept that. Bartman should move to Florida permanently and tell all of Chicago to fark off.

2003-10-16 03:04:59 PM
Hell, I would have farked up an important Cubs game just to spend a harsh winter in Florida

2003-10-16 03:05:20 PM
When a fan is threatened in Chicago, its all part of the charm of Cubs fans. A brawl breaks out all over the place in Boston and its just those adorable loser Red Sox fans. If this happens in Philly, fans would be bashed to no end and protrayed as Limbaughesque or Sapponian

2003-10-16 03:06:06 PM
it's a goat thing. i know alou doesn't believe it. he still won't believe it next tuesday while he's sitting at home watching the world series on tv. it's a goat thing and will be a goat thing until the cubbies let the goat in. ain't nothing the red sox can do about the babe tho.

2003-10-16 03:06:17 PM
You know sports fans. I have had just about enough of having all these people bash this poor guy. Anyone who knows anything about baseball should know that when you are sitting that close to the beer vendor, you have to get two for everyone. Not to mention a few dogs. I have seen the clip 15 times, in a row, and it seems to me that if you are a real cubs fan then you blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahbl ahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah blahblahblah.

enough already tree huggers. he farked it up. we woulda won. you know it.

"There are few words to describe how awful I feel and what I have experienced within these last 24 hours.

I've been a Cub fan all my life and fully understand the relationship between my actions and the outcome of the game. I had my eyes glued on the approaching ball the entire time and was so caught up in the moment that I did not even see Moises Alou, much less that he may have had a play.

Had I thought for one second that the ball was playable or had I seen Alou approaching I would have done whatever I could to get out of the way and give Alou a chance to make the catch.

To Moises Alou, the Chicago Cubs organization, Ron Santo, Ernie Banks, and Cub fans everywhere I am so truly sorry from the bottom of this Cubs fan's broken heart.

I ask that Cub fans everywhere redirect the negative energy that has been vented towards my family, my friends, and myself into the usual positive support for our beloved team on their way to being National League champs."

need to find tickets to next major baseball game and interfere.....

2003-10-16 03:10:49 PM
1. Try to cattch foul ball.
2. ??????????
3. Get 3 months in Florida

2003-10-16 03:12:10 PM
I would take every dollar thrown my way. Chicago is dumb for freaking out over it, and Florida is dumb for hailing this guy as a saint. Guy tried to catch a baseball. No more, no less.

Take them for every cent.

2003-10-16 03:12:11 PM
Lather...rinse...

[REPEAT] tag, anyone?

2003-10-16 03:15:31 PM
(insert picture of ackbar here)

IT'S A TRAP BY THE CUBS FANS TO AMBUSH YOU BARTMAN!

2003-10-16 03:17:31 PM
no no no. The 4 games the Marlins managed to win, the 7 runs scored Monday and 9 runs scored last night had nothing to do with the cubs blowing a 3-1 lead in the series.

Its all this guy going after one foul ball.....

2003-10-16 03:18:07 PM
When you look at the article, it appears that he is being offered a free vacation, but after seeing it about 15 times this morning, it looks like Florida will just mock him the whole time he's there and NOT make him feel welcome. Initially, I was like "what a dumbass, you should go", but now, no matter what he did, its not worth the humiliation.

This poor guy is never gonna take his free steak and martinis.

2003-10-16 03:18:14 PM
Shtoopid lucky farker...

2003-10-16 03:19:51 PM
yawn.

2003-10-16 03:20:42 PM
If these damn Bartman articles would stop getting approved, maybe I could let that joke die out....

Maybe.

2003-10-16 03:21:06 PM
I've seen this video 15 times and...........This guy is never going to live this down.

Geez - even I am getting sick of this story.

2003-10-16 03:21:54 PM
Man, wouldn't it be cool if this guy was a farker?

2003-10-16 03:22:27 PM
A couple years ago, I interfere with a ball hit to the outfield wall during a Pirates/Cubs game. (I reached into play, balls hits the palm of my hand, hit my head and then bounced back into the field.) The Cub batter gets a double and keeps the runner on first from scoring. (He would have scored easily from first if the Pirates had to play the ball off the wall.) Pirates strike out the next batter and get out of the inning with no runs scored. (The game was tied at that point.) Pirates hit a homer in extra innings to win the game.

Im leaving the game and everyone is congratulating me for helping the Pirates win, as if I knew what I was doing. Even the Pirates coach thanked "the fan" in a post-game locker room interview. Of course, Im as big of an idiot as Bartman, just the outcome was different. Well, I probably would have been okay either way...no one pays that much attention to the Pirates.

Ha like I need a free place to stay. I'll get the last laugh on all you- book advances, talk show circuit-- I'll be rolling in it and move to a gated Lake Forest community where no one has ever heard of the (door)Mets.

2003-10-16 03:27:10 PM
enough already tree huggers. he farked it up. we woulda won. you know it.

Yeah, Dusty Baker waiting to pull Mark Prior even though he was struggling hard to find the strike zone, Alex Gonzalez's error, loading the bases twice, Sosa's lame attempt to throw the go ahead run out at the plate when hitting the cut-off man would have gotten the runner advancing to second out, ending the inning down merely one run instead of five, and serving up a meatball to Mike Mordecai that cleared the bases and put the game away were nothing compared to that foul ball.

2003-10-16 03:28:53 PM
He doesn't have to leave Chicago, but he may have to move to the south side.

2003-10-16 03:32:34 PM
Big_Bad_Dad, that's where you're wrong.

If that sort of thing happened in Philly, chances are he wouldn't have lived to see the outside of the stadium.

Born and raised in Philly... kinda anxious to leave.

OnAnotherPlanet = You are right. Philly citizens are even more barbaric that Chicago Citizens. Which is why both cities suck!!

Has anyone seen these funny pictures like Steve Bartman lighting the Hindenburg on fire? Supposedly he's responsible for a whole lot of things now LOL.

Satan'sLittleHelper

It could be worse. We could be New York... or God help us, New Jersey.

Spare your West Camden remarks.
