that being called based upon that photograph would be the equivalent of an MLB ruling the 2B "ghost tag" wasn't a tag......you have to be either basically lined up in the slot or like, 2 feet behind the next lineman for that to be called.

now, it is called on occasion, but it is way obvious when it happens. that would have been damn near punitive.

plus, go back to Pittsburgh's phantom backwards passed that was ruled incomplete (i already forget; didn't denver recover the ball on the ground?) it all evens out.

actually it should have been a Denver TD because it was ran back, if not for the inadvertent whistle.

No complaining about the refs.

End of story.

I'm as tired of Tebow as anyone, but this is a non-story. There's a lot of leeway on lining up on the line of scrimmage, and it has to be pretty egregious to be called an illegal formation. This is hardly egregious, and even if it were egregious enough to be called, it's unfathomable that it mattered at all to the outcome of the play. So, in short, stop biatchin.

Good point. So the bad calls are balanced and Denver won fairly on hilariously busted coverage.

Moving on.

As a Seahawks fan, hearing Steelers fans biatch about blown calls warms the cockles of my heart. And you know how important it is to have warm cockles.

The seven Broncos were close to the line and set, so there was nothing to call.

Most Steelers fans I've seen on Fark have said the Broncos simply outplayed them.

That said, I'm almost glad the Steelers lost because they're banged up enough that they probably wouldn't have made the AFCCG or SB, and we'd have been subjected to three weeks of "REFS BLEW BACKWARD PASS DEAD REFS IN STILLAR POCKIT RABBLERABBLE" threads.

If it were called, it just means Tebow would've thrown an 85 yard pass to win the game.

I love how the article starts off "should this be a penalty?" Then gives several official sources that all state it's not a penalty. Finally it concludes, it's not a penalty. Great article. A+ Would read again.

This. It's done, refs make mistakes, and Pittsburgh had ample opportunity to win the game. Why cry about it now? Oh, I know many have, loudly and endlessly, but not me. The Steelers got outplayed, and a foot or two on a line set isn't what made the difference in that game.

2012-01-12 04:17:21 PM
That play was squeaky clean and magnificent. However, I did not like how that ended. Not at all. If Tebow can do that once, he can it again. And again.

Steelers fans complaining about this call? I haven't seen that.

Was it a penalty? Yes, but borderline. Did it have anything to do with the outcome of the game? Nope, not even a little. That touchdown was not the result of a Denver player being just a little off the line, and anyone claiming that is dumb.

Incontinent_dog_and_monkey_rodeo: Whoever won that game was losing next week anyway, so why worry?

yeah, I mean...they have a good track record of home winning home playoffs games...oh--right

well, I mean certainly they have a solid record for beating those same teams if they blew them out a couple of weeks earlier...I mean teams can't comeback from that sort of --hmmmmm

Well, I'm sure former defensive coordinator and defensive-minded bill belichick has a stout defense that that is ranked in the top of the league-----they are? oh, good...wait it's in yards allowed? that's bad...They have devin mccourty, the first rounder comign off a pro-bowl season? That's good...oh, he's been moved to safety becuase teams are actively targeting him....that's bad...

No problem..I'm sure they've faced some tough opponents and are battle tested and ready to rumble----...huh, nuthin but cupcakes and sub .500 teams the last 7 weeks?

Well, I have no doubt they are banging on all cylinders right now....really running up the score on other teams these last few weeks....---oh they had to dig themselves from under 20 point deficits....

I haven't seen any Steelers fans crying about it. This guy wrote an article to get hits. He knew that by putting "Tim Tebow" in the headline, he'd get hits. It's a cheap shot and we don't know we've been duped until we've already hit the page.

My wife got a phone call from a Pittsburgh fan family member about it the next day.

Morgoth: Was it a penalty? Yes, but borderline.

Probably not from the perspective of the guy looking right down the line.

Morgoth: Did it have anything to do with the outcome of the game? Nope, not even a little. That touchdown was not the result of a Denver player being just a little off the line, and anyone claiming that is dumb.

A thousand times this.

I was completely unsurprised that A) Denver won, and B) won in OT. It's what they've done all year. Pittsburgh was beat up coming in. Yes, they're a better team than Denver. The same can be said about probably fifteen other teams. But when Denver keeps it close, they tend to win football games. They're not going to come back from twenty down like Detroit. They're not going to put up a fortyburger every week like New Orleans. But if they're within eieven with four minutes left, watch out.

This. So very much this.

I don't really like tebow, never have. However, since the Steelers got beat last week everyone thinks I don't like tebow because I'm a Steelers fan, and we can't give anyone credit for good play. They of course ignore the fact that I stated before the game that I thought we would have a lot more trouble with Denver than most realized.

Bleh.. Even if the Steelers had won I didn't see us advancing much further.

I mean, uh, What a terrible call! The Steelers are always getting screwed by the refs. Denver got lucky. Penalty!!

Still, when Pereira speaks, it's wise to listen.

Mr. Chase, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

INeedAName: Real Pittsburgh fans get a bad rap from all the out of town out of touch Pittsburgh fans.

No, Pittsburgh fans get a bad rap because their team is always contending and they get cocky because of it. I love talking smack during football season, but that's all it is. The problem comes from the fact that some people are cocky 24/7/365 and people naturally assume that all fans are like that because that's what they're presented with. Nobody likes a winner, especially an arrogant one. The better measure is how you take it when your team loses. I admit that I was shocked, and in some ways I still am because I was expecting to care about a football game this weekend, but all the same I haven't made any excuses, I haven't registered any complaints, and I'd like to think I've been humble about the whole thing. That's the real measure of a fan. Everybody else is hot air and nonsense. Right, Seattle fan?
