He should go ahead and pull a Brewster, and be the None of the Above candidate.

2012-01-12 12:23:24 PM
That may backfire. He is the sanest of the lot of them.

2012-01-12 12:27:21 PM
Hell, I would vote for him over Obama, let alone the rest of the republicans.

I'd vote for him since he actually seems to have a clue about what's going on.

2012-01-12 12:34:35 PM
He's got my vote.

2012-01-12 12:38:53 PM
I'm not even an Earthican but I'd vote for him.

2012-01-12 12:39:47 PM
Because of the same reason as last time? Either party would simply deny him place on the ballot by the executive council of {insert state}.

2012-01-12 12:42:06 PM
Finally, someone I'd like to vote for in 2012 appears.

2012-01-12 12:46:59 PM
At least we know for sure we'd be getting a clown

/hate finding out after they're already in office

[x] Colbert, Stephen

It is done

2012-01-12 01:02:10 PM
It probably says something about the sorry state of politics in this country that I think seeing him pull a Jesse Ventura would be just about the best outcome I can imagine for this election year.

jimmyego: Because of the same reason as last time? Either party would simply deny him place on the ballot by the executive council of {insert state}.

True, but when he offered to pay $40K to whichever party would grant him naming rights to the primary, they fell over each other to petition the election committee to allow it. Link (new window)

/Would vote for Colbert in a heartbeat

At least he's more viable than Alvin Greene.

Punky?

2012-01-12 01:27:28 PM
I think he'd stand a good chance at winning.

I'd actually have to think about it a little... he does seem more sane and knowledgeable than most.

2012-01-12 01:32:56 PM

He's got better ethics than any recent President. He wouldn't go off starting wars. He would actually care about the poor, the sick, students, The discrimination against gays, the prejudice against any group in our society, etc.

Colbert, Stephen. I'm in!!

Shostie: The character or the person?

That's a good question.

Although I don't think the character is eligible because he's only about 7 years old.

2012-01-12 01:52:40 PM
Colbert the character or Colbert the person?

I'd probably vote for either.

Djkb: Colbert the character or Colbert the person?

I'd probably vote for either.

The character is still better than the President. What he should do is govern as himself, but only address the nation as the character.

2012-01-12 02:39:45 PM
maybe because he'd have to give up his show

Why don't we let him win, then we'll see.

I would love for this to happen just for the sheer laugh factor, but at the same time I can imagine that internationally, even if Colbert only gets say 10% of the SC vote and manages to finish third, the reaction would still mostly be "LOL USA is so useless they want a comedian as President WTF???!??".

If Colbert decides to go full isolationist, then there's no problem, and he can go on having press conferences in the West Wing whose sole purpose to mock Kim Jong-Un's haircut.

I loved the bit he did on Romney a few days back...

"No, not that one... Show the one with Romney being spontaneous. (Romney stump speech)

No! Not that one, The one where he let's his hair down and shoots from the hip! (Romney stump speech)"

Etc. etc.

Classic.

Is that the one where he "spontaneously" bursts out into America the Beautiful? At every appearance?

THIS is the true Pat Paulson legacy. Good for him.

2012-01-12 04:27:25 PM
He should do it, if not to simply underline how farcical the entire lot of GOP candidates are this cycle.

2012-01-12 04:28:11 PM
We've already elected an actor. At least this one is smart.

I'd vote for him.

2012-01-12 04:31:00 PM
so if we all register as republicans, we get to pick who runs against our candidate? i like how this works!
