You know what I really needed? A slideshow about players the Lions should take in the draft.

They played a surprisingly clean game against the Saints.

The entire draft should focus on the secondary and the o-line. Also someone should really teach the entire defense how to farking tackle. They always just try to hit guys and that shiat clearly is not cutting it.

The Lions drafting Burflict? Are they trying to set a record for most Personal Fouls in a season?

Anybody else see the article that showed Lions opponents actually had more personal fouls called than the Lions did?

R Kelly's Doo Doo Butter: The entire draft should focus on the secondary and the o-line. Also someone should really teach the entire defense how to farking tackle. They always just try to hit guys and that shiat clearly is not cutting it.

What this man says. Figure out the free agency options for offensive line and secondary, then draft to fill in the gaps. Backus is the master of the hold and false start. The secondary is porous.

As for the dirty play of the defense, this has to be coaching related. Avril, Vanden Bosch, and Suh are all doing it (personal fouls, hands to the face, etc) every game. Something needs to change in the locker room on that one.

YoungSwedishBlonde: The Lions drafting Burflict? Are they trying to set a record for most Personal Fouls in a season?

I really hope he falls to the Steelers (it seems like he will) and they have the guts to admit Farrior should have been gone 2 years ago.

He's a headcase, but they need someone who plays a bit angry and hates losing. He has every physical tool and seems quite instinctive enough to be a multi-year all pro playing in LeBeau's system.

There will be some OL there for the taking in FA this year and with releasing/cutting some old dead wood I think they can skip OL in the 1st round of the draft and take this guy.

2012-01-12 01:24:04 PM
as for the Lions, unless they find significant reason to trade up or down, I think they should be targeting Konz

Totally this on the o-line. Backus and Raiola hves been a good soldiers through the bad times but they're barely cutting it. There aren't many decent safeties becoming UFA's; like Tyvon Branch is in the top 3. As a Raider fan I like him but he couldn't catch the clap in a Thai whorehouse.

SuperChuck: Anybody else see the article that showed Lions opponents actually had more personal fouls called than the Lions did?

Wait, you mean that NFL reporting has an agenda and often what you read from reporters and hear from announcers doesn't actually reflect what happened in the game?! I'm shocked!

2012-01-12 01:31:25 PM
No thanks. O-line is fine as it is.

Positions I don't want to see in the first round:

O-line, WR, QB, RB, D-line

Those can come from the later rounds just fine. Most O-lines are developed, not just drafted.

Lions need help on defense. They always manage to put up decent points on offense, but allow far too many and who knows how many games Suh will miss next year.

If the Lions were smart they would try to steal Greg Mattison from Michigan for defensive coordinator. As a wolverine this would suck, but as a Lions fan I would be happy.

Vanden Bosch looks like he's raging on roids every game, and the performance contacts don't help his appearance any...

The Lions secondary was killed by injuries this year, but they do need better play from the CBs and definitely more depth. They had a backup WR playing CB in several games because of all the injuries. They are pretty OK at safety. Delmas was very rusty in the playoff game after missing 6 weeks with a knee injury but he's pretty damn good if healthy.

The poor tackling the last two games was odd as that had not been a significant problem the rest of the season.

I agree that Backus sucks but the OL is not really holding the team back at this point. Raiola is fine.

At 23 your pretty much drafting backups anyway, so draft best available. Its not like they don't need a good backup QB, if the opportunity presents itself

Kevin Smith averaged 4.9 yards per carry. The main problem with the running game was that every other running back who was not injured totally sucked.

Did the Lions blitz Brees at all? When your front 4 can't get to the QB and your secondary is getting shredded, you might want to try something different. Sure, he can hurt you if you blitz but you can't go an entire game getting torn up without trying something new.

They didn't blitz exactly because their secondary sucks. If they had to go man on coverage they would have been lit up for 90 points.

Not sure if trolling or just stupid...

Pretty much this. I would love to also throw in a mid-round, big RB to pair with Best and give you options in the backfield, but aside from that pretty much draft O-Line and Secondary(Do you really NEED that many recievers with Megatron on the field? Plus, Titus Young is, well, young. You can draft more WR depth next year).

2012-01-12 05:19:00 PM
First thing they need is to replace all the defensive coaches. Then upgradde the linebacker positions. The secondary has the potential, they just weren't used or coached well. Get rid of Vanden Bosch, resign or franchise Cliff Avril.

The D-line was perhaps the most overrated unit in NFL history. They made a substantial impact in about three games. Individually great, but somehow they did jack when all put together. Couldn't stop the inside or the outside run, and really didn't get that much pressure on anyone except Tebow.

The O-line is a mess but can pass block reasonably well. You'd have to replace all five starters to have an actual run game, gonna just have to settle on being a passing team for the foreseeable future. Not enough money or picks to upgrade the line enough to run on anybody.

I'm a huge Lions homer, but they need too many pieces to really make a super bowl run. There's little chance they can pick up two decent LBs, a center, a CB, an OG, and a competent defensive coordinator. They'll be good, but they just don't have enough to get past the NFC championship game.

It's pretty ridiculous that a team with all the skill positions filled by quality starters can't get the job done.

2012-01-12 05:45:48 PM
ricewater_stool: They didn't blitz exactly because their secondary sucks. If they had to go man on coverage they would have been lit up for 90 points.

There are 10 teams in the NFL with worse secondaries than the Lions and they're able to pull of successful blitzes. I don't care if you're the worst in the history of the league, you have to mix things up once in a while.
