I don't know why the Israeli government thinks everything is an existential threat of some kind or tantamount to "national suicide." They pulled the same rationale while the government was debating whether to start deporting African refugees of ethnic cleaning in Sudan and Eritrea back to their home countries last year.

I, for one, am sure glad that the US strongly supports "the only free and democratic State in the Middle East."

God bless 'em.

Tell me again how this paves the path towards reconcilliation and peace.,,

At some point, the Israelis are going to have to either admit that a half century of this crap hasn't worked, or they're going to have to just say, "EVERYONE OUT!" and deal with a reduced labor pool.

But Interior Minister Eli Yishai, who congratulated the Supreme Court on Thursday, made clear that shoring up Israel's Jewish majority was also a concern.

Boiled to its essence, the majority opinion by the Israeli Supreme Court could, with only slight modification, been the merits brief of Virginia in Loving v. Virginia.

G-d forbid such a state should ever get their hands on nuclear weapons.

When Hamas stated that in the spirit of the Arab Spring that they were going to concentrate on non-violent protest? Mind you, that was to perhaps more to avoid crushing reprisals on the communities that they lived in, but without violent protests to crush, it does sort of take the steam out of the momentum to boot more folks from the Strip...

Turkey no longer counts now that is not Israel's lapdog. (Plus, I think that technically it is a part of Europe, not the Middle East.)

hubiestubert: When Hamas stated that in the spirit of the Arab Spring that they were going to concentrate on non-violent protest?

Except that they clearly said dozens of time in Arabic since then that they were not in any way dropping Jihad and stopping the struggle until the land is free from river to sea.

So yeah nothing there

Next.

PS: They also declared that there is no need for non-violent protests in Gaza because Gaza is not under occupation. Their words.

Hmm, there's something I don't know the answer to: Is Turkey or Kuwait the most free state in the Middle East?

Israel is a solid third, at best.

Tatsuma: Tell me why we have to always be the only ones to do this.

Because you're the ones who hold the government. You have a population that you moved in with, and in coming in stripped folks of land, and representation, and were shocked when folks reacted poorly to this. Especially when you had the opportunity when the state was forming to share power, and come together as region and a people. That wasn't the route that was taken. And for this, you've had years of generated conflict. Created and managed conflict.

At this point, we have to acknowledge, that your people don't want peace. At least not a peace that involves anything other than the removal of folks from the region. Which is sort of the reason for the conflict in the first place...
