Good.

Normally I would be happy with this but from what I've read Issa is one piece of sh*t corrupt pol. There must be something he's not personally benefiting from if this legislation goes through.

SOPA needs to be thrown away, I can agree entirely with that. Smith, Conyers, and the freaking entirety of Hollywood should be publicly caned for even imagining such a bill.

Ok, Issa is against this thing now? This is just getting bizarre. That, or he lives off of computer contributions.

If Issa is against it I can't help but wonder if I shouldn't be for it.

He is. Issa is a huge slimeball. However, I suppose this is proof that no one is completely evil, and if Issa is on the side of the angels on this one then I say welcome.

But in reality, I can only assume that some corporate interest that's anti-SOPA outbid a pro-SOPA one for Issa's services. It's the only explanation that makes sense.

Both Pauls, Ryan, and Bachmann are against it too strangely.

Issa is a piece of shiat but if he's getting payed by Google et al to vote against SOPA, that works for me.

This bill is bringing out the weirdest side of everyone.

FTA: Bootnote: When asked if he thought that his colleagues in the House knew enough about how the internet works to start regulating it, Issa's answer was concise. "No," he said.

Lol. Nice quote.

Didn't Issa teach Salmissra the lesson for waking him up for no good reason? I thought that Polgara just stood there.

Jared Polis, a Democrat from Colorado. He's 37 (not old). He's also a pasty, chubby dude.

He's also, according to wiki, one of the 10 richest members of Congress, worth about $66 million (but he got rich off them innernetz before he was in Congress).

The first openly-gay man elected to Congress as a freshman and the first gay parent.

I felt like reading more about the guy, and it seems that there are fewer than 535 reprobates in Congress.

Jared Polis and Darrel Issa giving a joint press conference would be a sublime bit of theater of the absurd.

Any way the wind blows...

SOPA has received enough traction that it's now worth it to not support it/come out against it. It'll go away for a couple years, come back with a different name/new round of bribes corporate free speech, and they'll try to sneak it through without anyone noticing.

Oh look, something about SOPA on Fark. When is Fark gonna do something about this bill? Reddit is going dark for a day in protest. Why isn't Fark speaking out and doing something about it?

The anti-SOPA organization hasn't picked a representative color. As soon as they do, Fark will update their logo to show an appropriately colored Livestrong bracelet. It's not Fark's fault that the movement is indecisive about important things like that.

2012-01-12 01:08:46 PM
Here's the deal:

SOPA is supported and defended by moneyed interests on both sides.

The recording industry and Hollywood both support SOPA to help protect their interests.

The high-end internet businesses like Google and such are opposed to SOPA to help protect 'their' interests.

This is a case of businesses conflicting with businesses, so it comes down to PR and public perception.

2012-01-12 01:09:14 PM
Is subby on a different planet or doesn't he now that Dems and Repubs are both as likely to support SOPA? Hint: it's just as newsworthy to find a Dem opposing SOPA as a Republican. In fact, Dems opposing SOPA might be more newsworthy as the unions that represent the core of illogical bleeding heart idiocy known as "artists, actors and musicians" strongly support SOPA. AFTRA, SAG and IATSE are all supporters of SOPA. That means AFL-CIO supports SOPA as well.

I suspect trial lawyers support SOPA as well since it would let them sue the deep pockets of google and yahoo instead of letting them use Safe Harbor provisions in DMCA.

Democrats are not libertarians and have no interest in protecting individual liberties. People that are surprised by Democrat support of these types of bills simply don't understand what the Democratic party represents.

/Republicans are not the opposite of Democrats so the logically flawed conclusion you are about to reach is logically flawed.

Fark posted a video and a very well thought-out supporting article on the full effects of the Protect-IP act and SOPA, but someone else claimed copyright and they had to take it down

If you look at the Senators who oppose/approve of SOPA - it isn't along party lines at all. It is more or less those who get it (oppose) and those who don't (approve).
