The show is up 20 percent in viewers over Sheen's final season, the Nielsen ratings company said, and Kutcher has also brought in a younger crowd

So more viewers is less subby? Must be that new math I've been hearing about.

The same viewers who regard Whitney as the epitome of sophisticated wit.

I see how Fark's hipster crowd has showed up here.

Writers were able to change the tone by making Kutcher's character a heartbroken Internet billionaire who has everything he wants except the woman he loves. Jon Cryer, who played Sheen's annoying little brother, is now Schmidt's older friend. It was all a welcome tone change, Aronsohn said.

The tone hasn't changed at all. Neither has the formula. Cryer's still poor and living with a wealthy person who he leeches off of. Kutcher is still a playboy who has a broad of the week. The kid is still stupid (although now he's grown and a pothead, great representation). The stalker is training a new stalker and the fat, sarcastic maid (only good part of the show) is still the fat, sarcastic maid.

My problem is Cryer is just as annoying to Kutcher as he was to Sheen in the show. Why doesn't Kutcher (who has a billion dollars and just gives it away at times), just give Cryer a million and tell him to STFU?

My girlfriend watches it hoping it'll return to funny like the old seasons (before the kid hit puberty). After every episode she says it's terrible. I tell her she's a masochist.

Kutcher is a number? Is it more than a firken?

Because of Thursday night on NBC. Well, until they benched "Community" for the Whitney/Chelsea power hour.

/We still have "Parks and Rec," at least.

I don't get this...

They benched community to put on 30 Rock....but then moved Whitney to Wednesday along with the new Chelsea show....so, why couldn't they have kept community, or are they putting something else on Thursday nights?

I think it is a great idea. A mediocre talent on a mediocre show that is enjoyed for all its mediocrity by its mediocre fanbase. A great bundle of bland mediocrity to occupy your dull minds.

PsyLord: Never watched the show... neither pre nor post Winning.

I've sat through a few episodes when visiting friends/relatives. Its essentially the Jerrry Springer of sitcoms. All the humor revolves around fart jokes and womanizing. There's nothing clever or witty about any of it, and its one of the highest rates shows on TV.

People are too lazy to change the channel or turn the television off after the news or NFL football. Also, remember that each viewer's vote counts just as much as yours in the election.

Some of the early seasons are great (or at least good given the premise and chemistry), but then they just ran out of ideas.

So the show is so bad off they can only hype it by saying 'replacement boy wants to return...and it's gonna happen, too!'

The enthusiasm, it ebbs.....

I was incorrect - it's "Up All Night" that is getting moved into Community's spot. I really like Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, and Maya Rudolph, but meh on that show.

An appeal to popularity is not a sound argument.

Ah Fark. Where 2 and a Half Men sucks, but Community is the paradigm of good television.

Both shows are crap. One actually gets ratings though.

The fact that you just compared "Community" to "Two-and-a-Half Me"n lets me know that you, um, well, did you even think about this comparison beyond "I don't like either show?"

When you're discussing a show's value to a network, it's usually the only sound argument. Since popularity = advertising revenue.

I never remember that, as a matter of fact I think Fark's consensus has been that BBT has always been "nerd-blackface"

In terms of nerd comedy, compare Community to BBT. Community has a subtlety about it, where as BBT seems to bash you over your head with a club. I don't know if that is because of the styles ("Live audience vs no audience") but it just seems that BBT is trying to hard to be "nerd chic"

The Beetlejuice reference that spanned over three seasons of community was brilliant.

No, it really isn't. But I understand how it might appeal to simple-minded folk like yourself. 'Give them bread and circuses.'

Aha! But we are discussing quality here, unless I missed something.

Your definition of value is also narrow. "Jersey Shore" might have value to a network like A&E in a financial sense, but not an artistic one.

Yes....yes, you should be. I thought it got cancelled after the second show.....just goes to show how stupid simple-minded, dim, mindless, moronic, naive, nonsensical and obtuse the viewing audience is.

That is how someone who likes something shiatty tries to turn it back on the people criticizing what they like. It's so old that we should start making fun of people who call everyone hipsters instead of hipsters themselves.

Hell, we all enjoy shiat sometimes. Just say, "Hey, I know it's shiat, but I still enjoy it." Not everything you like has to have artistic or intellectual value. I watch professional wrestling, but I don't try to act like there is some hidden cultural value that "hipsters" don't get. It's shiat, but it entertains me. Just admit it, people.

/BBT and Two-and-a-Half Men are both utter shiat. They don't entertain me, though.

HBO, Showtime, A&E, IFC, PBS, etc., etc.

I guess it isn't true of the broadcast networks so much, but obviously there is a consideration of artistic value on some channels that air in the U.S. I'm sure this is also true of numerous channels abroad.

Bull -- that show was fresh and funny. Its not now. People don't like it maybe because the characters are static pathetic whiners who are incapable of manning up even a tiny bit. Everyone but Sheldon. Atleast you can belive that that character is socially inept. The rest revolves around everyone being puny losers that cant get dates because they are... fantastic tools. It gets tired fast. I have a hard time tuning in to watch a group of people work through their problems that they caused by being to pussy to deal with their problems. The characters just start looking more and more like assholes that quirky losers.

I want to mention some of those shows like the whitney one or chelsea handlers abortion of a show... They are not funny. That show "up all night" blew aswell. They just are not funny.

They arent. They are drama sitcoms. Seinfeld was a sitcom -- how often did that show have sentimental "aww" moments? Did the characters ever learn life lessons? The new sitcoms are more like friends. They want to make the characters dimensional and dynamic and it always does it at the cost of comedy.

I didnt like 2 and a half men and that was for a seperate reason - I have seen many episodes of the show and i cant telll you one scene that stands out as being different from the rest. Its funny at times i give you that, but the funny times seem to be the same theme of jokes over and over and over... i cant recall a single joke that made me remember the scene or episode. They could be from any episode...

I don't like the implication that people oppose something popular for the sole reason of being counter cultural. Some people might but can i go out on a limb and say that just because something gets good rating doesnt mean its good.

Anyone remember those pop hits from the late 90s that would hang out at the top of the top 40 chart for weeks and weeks at a time? The backstreet boys put out an album that sold very very well. Better than led zepplins IV... So does that make ME the tool for claiming black dog is a better song than larger than life?

Let me get this straight, "TV star of hit TV show wants to continue to be TV star of hit TV show." This takes not news to a pretty low level.
