how dare you! I think the only purpose of the article is to generate pages of responses so that espn gets some feedback so they know if they are hyping the right players. The all-star voting would suggest that they are, I believe Crosby was almost voted into the all star game even though he has played 8 games in a calendar year (?), and he has had more media focus than all the other players combined. He's great, but so are many other players.

As a Bruins fan, you might want to take a page out of the Detroit/Chicago book and just lay low. Sure, Malkin and Crosby and Letang are the best players in the world, the central division doesn't have anybody worth mentioning. Nothing to see here, thanks for all the cups.

I agree with Hastor. It's like the question was vague or the players didn't understand it/give a damn about their answer. No one thinks of Gomez or Komisarek as overrated. Maybe when they were signed to their contracts, but nowadays they are merely overpaid. If anything, guys like that risk being underrated as their bloated contract often gets in the way of assessing their play. Which isn't to say Gomez is underrated. I'm not prepared to troll that hard.

I'm a litttle currious about how these surveys are done? E mail them to players,and pay anyone that sends one back or something? Tour the East cost where the teams are close together and interview everyone in the dressing rooms those nights?

And Phaneuf is doing quite well this year. Top ten D-man and terrific playmaker. There aren't too many teams who wouldn't kill to have him right now.

Yeah, I don't really get their reasoning, especially in regards to Iginla. He's an all around solid player, as are a good number of players on that list.

Well obviously some got it, because Jay Bouwmeester is on the list, however he's way to low. Now I know people will say that like Gomez he's just overpaid but honestly is there another player in the NHL with as much talent who got so much hype(on top of the giant contract) because of said talent and has done less with it?

As a Canes fan, you can tell Ovetchkin is overrated every single time we play. The announcers just have to talk about him for no reason at all. They are like, "Ovetchkin shoots" "Ovetchkin steals the puck at the blue line" "Ovetchkin drives the net and lays it off for whoever" "Ovetchkin gets the assist" "Ovetchkin levels whoever" "Good forchecking by Ovetchkin" "Ovetchkin is there for the rebound" "Ovetchkin scores".

Yeah that's certainly true. Just trollin' Leaf fans a bit ;) I think until Schenn & Phaneuf arrived he was overrated by the Leafs media but now he's back in the shadows as a quiet defender, where he should be. Him or Phaneuf didn't make my list. I wouldn't call Phaneuf overated, but then again 20% of NHLers polled disagree with me.

But Keith plays 28 minutes a night in front of a pair of goalies whose SV% is in the .890-.900 range, and he's still in the top 30 for +/-. Overrated he aint.

Agreed. I'm just saying that there has been a dropoff from his play that year. Last year I put it on the Olympics and a deep playoff run so maybe he had a SC hangover. Also, I'm sure that separating him and Seabs hasn't helped. But he was terrific that year and hasn't been on that same level since.

Anyway, maybe it's just me, but I would be more than prepared to put this guy on the list:

Johnson is still salivated over as some future godsend at the blueline, but he's tied for 36th in total scoring among defenseman, and is -8 right now on a team in LA that doesn't even give up many goals in the first place (okay, they barely score any, as well...)
