If you signed up for Google+ then you deserve everything that's going to happen to you.

Thank god, I can't tell you how annoying it is, no matter what I search it always ends up with asian midget tranny porn

me- "The magna carta."
Google- You probably misspelled asian tranny porn didn't you?
Me- "No!....but I mean as long as the search is already completed...."

I tell you, wrecks your productivity time down to 0.

But, but, the next article down talks about how Facebook will die, which obviously means that Google + will be THE next thing!

On another note, somehow I've managed to not MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, or Google+. Not because I'm better or special - I have friends I respect who have Facebook accounts - but I waste enough time on the internet already. Also, I have an android phone and the ways it can be tracked are creepy enough, thank you.

This. Friends are always asking my why I don't have a facebook account. How do you people get anything done?

My solution is NOT having a google plus account.

Is not having Facebook the new "I don't really watch TV"?

This.

I think we have found how Yahoo can make a comeback.

How about you sign out of google plus, and sign back in when you want to use it? Or don't use it at all if you don't like them tracking and storing all your search data.

FTA: Selecting "Do not user personal results" actually doesn't disable personal search results-you can still toggle to show personal results any time. It just makes "hide personal results" the default.

Typical.

Solution: Don't use Google. I use startingpage.com for my searches. Just as good as Google, but doesn't save any user data and in fact has a feature to prevent even your ISP from seeing your searches.

Even better : ixquick.com

Built-in proxy searching so NOBODY sees your searches. :-)

Why are companies constantly fixing what ain't broke? I get that progress should happen, but sometimes stasis is better than backwards.

I can't see google keeping this long. It is awkward and cluttered, and if microsoft can keep bing on the simple, they might find themselves with more traffic as time goes on.

/obvious comments, had to say them

Carth: Is not having Facebook the new "I don't really watch TV"?

No, it's the new, "I'm not stupid enough to sign on to an obviously bad deal and then whine about the no-brainer consequences I incur later".

I don't think most people who have avoided using Facebook have a problem with the concept of social media, they have a problem with Facebook. I'm not opposed to communicating via the intertubes with friends and family, but I'm not going to do it using a site with the massive privacy and security implications of Facebook.

I was thinking the same thing - the reason Google became popular because it was simple and reliable. I'd say the same thing about Fark adding in all the bullshiat, they're over complicating something that doesn't need to be, it was fine before.

I have facebook, but I often wonder if I'm one of the few that doesn't feel the urge to constantly be on it. I think I remember to post once or twice a week. As much as I'd like to, I won't get rid of my account, as I'm an expat and it's handy to keep in regular touch with people in other timezones.

Maybe it's the games that suck people's time away.

I clicked on the link, and due to my noscript all I saw was the lifehacker header, a big white space, and "more stories" at the bottom. An article about disabling google "features" that requires scripts to even just read the text? Something very meta about that.

Bob Down: If you signed up for Google+ then you deserve everything that's going to happen to you.

Why?

Although the personal search is one googles line of fark ups, it started with instant search, now not remembering a preference to turn annoying shiat off.

Google needs to back off some of this shiat, people loved you for its simplicity not the features the search page had. Why does it seem like companies make billions just to forget how they made those billions?

Oh, it's one of them? That would explain it. Your correction is therefore much appreciated.

I've never seen ads that were ever relevant to my interests, mainly because I don't buy stuff off of the internet.

I don't have a Google+ account, but I'm willing to bet that adding the following to your hosts or hosts.deny file would do wonders:

127.0.0.1 www.google-analytics.com
127.0.0.1 ssl.google-analytics.com
127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
127.0.0.1 partner.googleadservices.com
127.0.0.1 ajax.googleapis.com

At least, it does for me.

Companies need to show "growth." If not, their stock plunges.

You mean the behavior is controlled by a settings option that appears exactly where one would expect it to?

The only reason this is worth an article at all is that it's a stark demonstration of the difference between Facebook and Google+.

That is insulting to old people. My grandmother loves buying knitting supplies online.

It would be fine if they would stop farking with their main page though or their stock will plunge anyway, I find myself using bing more and more lately because google just tries to hard.

Simplicity people.
