The Big Ten has long had actual oversigning rules and requires teams to justify where the scholarships are coming from if it seems their signed class is going to put them over the 85 limit. Cutting guys or abusing the medical scholarship (the Saban specialty) don't fly. Guys will transfer because of lack of playing time, but if the guy is fine with riding the pine and still puts in the work in practice, the coach is kinda stuck with him.
