Dude. My childhood feels cheated. I want a live band behind games I'm playing.

/farking EPIC

This is also a good follow up from going to the Zelda Symphony last night..

I like how they mixed some Mega Man 3 tunes in there (specifically, the Get a Weapon theme, the intro theme, and the last Wily level theme).

A quick jump to the best song in Mega Man 2 (new window)

At times I couldn't figure out if they also had the game audio playing as well and they were just playing over it or if they were simulating some sounds elsewhere, but a cool idea nonetheless.

The only time I saw that they used the game's music was MM2 "get a weapon". I actually thought it was cool they went between that & MM3's "get a weapon".

Lemme guess, the first Skull Castle theme?

*clicks*

You know that's right.

I'm also infuriated with Mega Man 10. Those tri-boss battles at Wily's Castle are a biatch..

/only game in the 8-bits left to beat..

Pawn takes the King: MM3's "get a weapon".

Best theme from that game, I would say.

The game should have been shown PIP, and I wish at least one band member was doing sound effects.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener:

Best theme from that game, I would say.

Each game has their high points. Out of most 8-bit music I would say the MM franchise had some of the best.

Interestingly Elec Man's theme from MM1 is very similar to this R.E.M. song..

Mawson of the Antarctic: GUITARIST Y U NO GET OUT OF MY VIEW?

Sweet Jesus, THIS.

I used to be able to speed run this game, but that was a long time ago. Always hated that room near the end where you have to die then get back again because you need so much of one weapon to blast the barriers and the half-orbs things.

Having watched him, I know realize I was a stupid child. That used to be the only life it would cost me, dying and getting back to that room so the barriers would bee gone after using up all my Crash Bombs...

Yeah, if you really cared about it, you wouldn't be posting on Fark. EVER. I am both amused and angered by people who make the, specious, in my opinion, argument that because someone does something fun for a living, and other people enjoy it, that they're losers, or that the country is in a downward spiral because of it. Especially when they take the time to comment on it, in a site that needs registration to do so.

And don't give me the "I get my news from here," argument, either. I know plenty of people who get their news from papers (Yes, still.), sites like CNN.com, and other news, actual news, aggregates. This site's motto, the first one I remember, anyway, is "It's not news, it's Fark." Which holds the implication that it's amusing, non-important news. Now, it has evolved over the years to include some modicum of actual news, but the site's primary purpose, I would say, is still a, if you will, "news of the weird" website, where people share amusing items. Hence, the ability to make your own amusing headline for each article you submit.

Now, as to the "Crack a book" comment, Farkers are amonst the most literate 'net users I've ever come across (Don't make that dirty, perv.), and I've been privy to several discussions about books in the threads. In fact, I've learned about several authors I would never otherwise have picked up, if not for Fark.

And yes, it is awesome that the guy did a speed run of a video game (And a classic, to boot.) with a live band for the soundtrack. Wanna know why? Because it's something that not everyone can do. Such things, whether or not you enjoy the particular skill displayed, are awesome.

Now do yourself a favor, and take a long, hard look at yourself before you make comments about what other people do with their time on a website while posting on that same website. You're wasting just as much time as they are, home-skillet.

Long time lurker, first time caller.

Obviously this jabroni has no idea what it takes to play an instrument at that level. It is not just a job, it's an adventure. Much more interesting than trying to school people on their failures at life via the internets. Thanks for screwing up what should have been a giant thread paying tribute to this band's awesomeness. You suck.

The guy is very good at playing this video game, but the way the video is shot, its only serious value is an audio track. I just listened to it while working. Damn those old-school video game soundtracks kicked major f*cking ass!

Not to mention the fact that it takes TONS of education & a LOT of books to learn how to code video games.

I remember spend hours upon hours on that damned game. I would always get stuck at the stage toward the end where you had to kill the little bubbles on the walls.

I would always run out of ammo :(

Never did make it past there.

Also, the soundtrack was well played. I listened tot he whole thing while I worked.

Meh, not to toot my own horn, but the guy kinda sucks as far as speedruns go. 40-some odd minutes? Not even on Difficult mode?

I wish. I never learned the fine art of making videos, nor did the NES survive my recent move across the country. I'd do it on emulator or my ps-one classics, but I still am incapable of making video (and successfully dealing with versions and controllers other than the original NES gear). If any farker lives near Las Vegas and has an NES, I'd be willing to do it. Having just moved here, I don't have any friends that live closer than Minnesota. In short, I'm lonely. :(

btw, doing the bosses alphabetically seems to be the most fun. You generally have all of the tools for reaching those hard to get E-tanks.

Many years ago, I tried making a techno track based on a loop from the very section you highlighted. Best video game BGM ever.

Fair enough. And I think that part of the reason it's 44 minutes and not on difficult is so that the band could have plenty of time to play the music. If someone takes the time to set up something like this, I'm willing to bet that there's a reason they did it this way.

Also, I'm sure there's a Farker who can at least tell you how to record an emulator. I think I've heard of such things being done.
